Conversely, I've not had a bad bag of wonky carrots, including those I bought on Friday.

I bought a bag of Aldi’s “Wonky Carrots” expecting them to be misshapen or broken but at least edible. In fact, a lot of them were slimy and going rotten. There were also some that were going soft at the top, but I’ve found that with other supermarket carrots recently and I think they might have been frozen in the cold weather. Anyway, when I’d sorted out the good from the bad I had to throw away (in the compost bin) about half the weight, so altogether a bad buy.
Yes we had that recently, even though i sort out what looks okay visually and pay attention to the best by date (new format 4 numbers, first two the week last two day of week so this next week is 03 and tomorrow is 01 making 0301 best before tomorrow).

They are class 2 but should be edible, not stinking rotten, any sign of moisture in the bag i avoid now.

Not sure if it was a one-off lapse of quality as had no probs with these before, but the last time I bought a bag of Lidl frozen whole green beans they were awful. At least two-thirds of the beans were pale, yellowish and almost tasteless, and the small 'beans' inside the pods were hard. They ended up in the compost bin. It's a shame because it's put me off buying them from Lidl again. I buy Aldi frozen green beans now and they're absolutely fine.

Mine were dated 0301. I bought them on Wednesday (11th Jan). I normally find that carrots last well past their use by date.
Having got rid of the rotten ones, I rinsed and dried the rest and put them in a fresh bag in the fridge, and they are still OK.

They keep better in the fridge in water but change it daily.

I popped in to my local branch around about lunchtime to pick a few bits up for my mum. Mistake with timing, it was busy! I had to wait for a space in the car park and felt really irritated shopping within: I wanted to be in and out, Supermarket Sweep-style as I usually do in the evenings, but it was not to be. The branch manager must have thought kerr-ching!, it was full to the brim of people with full trolleys and my goodness they were leisurely. Looking around me I wondered where the cost of living crisis was! Or maybe folk are just preparing for a cold snap?

No frozen sweetcorn in stock, but I did find that same hand cream, reduced to £1.99 now so picked up a couple of bottles and gave one to Mum.
Aldi and Lidl have been 'discovered' by the masses now - the ones who used to look down their noses at them.  Review after review (another one today) in the 'quality' broadsheets showing that their products are often actually better. Today's comparison was Aldi/Waitrose - and Aldi won.

I think the tipping point has finally been reached - not good news for Tesco et al.
May not be good news for us shoppers either, price creep upwards is getting beyond a joke at Aldi, not so much creep as leap as the gap between Aldi/Lidl and Tesco prices seems to be narrowing daily!
I think Aldi were holding back on price rises to maintain the price gap with the others, but last week there were a lot.   Mostly 10-20p here and there, but they seemed to be on a significant number of items.

One thing to watch out for at Lidl & Aldi is that when there are a lot of price rises, some old labels get left behind and there is an increased risk of being overcharged.   I had that on two items at Aldi this week.
My first trip to Aldi since just after Christmas and low and behold more price rises, another 5-20p on things. Aldi have really seen some of the biggest increases I think. Things are now around 10-20p within the range of the other supermarkets and fighting your way round a packed shop is now something I'm reconsidering having used a more spacious and airy Sainsburys with self-scan more recently. Combined with nectar points and vouchers it can now be cheaper.

I had this yesterday - was walking past Lidl and decided to get prepared for the snow we were expecting this morning. Usually the carrots are fine, but yesterday one had the exact same problem as you described - slimy top half. It has been disposed of.

Load of reduced price chicken in my local Lidl this morning 1Kg of chicken breast 90p extra large whole chickens 90p and Mince also 90p I bought 9Kg of chicken breasts and two whole chickens and 5* 500g of mince there was still loads left but I was thinking about how much would fit in the freezer. That's twice this year I've had a good lot at reduced prices from Lidl.
The whole chickens will be used to make pies when I have the space in the freezer as will the mince.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • Lidl's cheap milk chocolate (white wrapper) is surprisingly tasty. I think the recipe has changed for the better.
