check this out, in Aldi yesterday:
chicken legs- bone in skin on: £1.99 per kilo
boned, skinned chicken thighs; £5+ per kilo!
I don't quite understand how some skin & bone more than doubles the price. needless to say bought the cheaper version.
I couldn't see bone in, skin on chicken thighs which I usually buy for slow cooker but maybe that was me!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Simple, firstly the higher meat content, secondly the extra time and employment costs taken to debone and de skin, thirdly the convenience charge for not having to do the job yourself.Katiehound said:check this out, in Aldi yesterday:

I use this to make chocolate crispie cakes and they are lovely!Rosa_Damascena said:Lidl's cheap milk chocolate (white wrapper) is surprisingly tasty. I think the recipe has changed for the better.2 -
Labour is by far the highest cost for food businesses. Any process that can't be done by a machine adds a lot to the price. It's why party food (Christmas canapés etc.) is so expensive, because there is usually an element that has to be done by hand.Katiehound said:I don't quite understand how some skin & bone more than doubles the price. needless to say bought the cheaper version.6 -
wild666 said:Load of reduced price chicken in my local Lidl this morning... That's twice this year I've had a good lot at reduced prices from Lidl.Only twice? That's the one and only thing I like about our local Lidl; the huge amount of reductions. I think I've only paid full price for meat once in the last year. I don't think our branch is very popular, especially with a big Tesco store across the road from it, and only having an ever decreasing range of products. I think many would struggle to do a full weekly shop there, even more so with all the empty shelves from such poor stock control, somewhere along the chain of command. All these failures must effect the footfall, but that just increases the amount of yellow stickered items in the chillers. I've even been known to go in, see a shelf full of yellow stickers, and decide to leave shopping until the day after, knowing that there will be even bigger 'clearance' discounts available.Christmas eve was the best. With so much stock dated 26th (boxing day), there were so many bargains I couldn't keep up. I'd already picked up a couple of fresh turkey crowns for £2 each. I was about to get some cheap mince, when I noticed whole legs of lamb being reduced to £2. People were putting 3 or 4 in their trolleys. Sadly my freezer was quite full, so I had to limit myself to 2.Planning another visit on Sunday, which is often a good day for yellow stickers there.

Its now costing £10 + an hour to pay for someone to skin and bone that chicken. And whilst "butchers on the line " can work flippin fast, line working means waste and that also needs to be priced forKatiehound said:check this out, in Aldi yesterday:

Last tin of Lidl Freshona chickpeas were awful, thick overcooked mush, but usually they're lovely. I'll make a point of shaking tinned pulses in future before bunging them in the trolley.

Little gems, whether Lidl, Tasco or M7S, are always vile. I've never understood why anyone likes them other than that they are small.PLRFD said:Lidl Midget Gems are vile straight in bin.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
