Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

I've bought 2 bags each of carrots, parsnips, potatoes & sprouts.
Plus a large savoy cabbage.
There are only the 2 of us but we have a full dinner again on Boxing Day.
Leftover sprouts will be blanched and frozen - we like them in beef casseroles.
Leftover parsnips & carrots and the swede will be cooked and mashed to go in the freezer to add to mashed potatoes for various mince pie toppings - parsnip & carrots go particularly well with chicken/turkey/pork mince.
The potatoes will be mashed and frozen.
So some healthy stuff for not a lot of outlay.
Depending on space in my freezer, I'll buy some more veg after Christmas to make a batch of soup if it's still 19p.2 -

Turkey prices were only 50p less than them and beef prices were same.
None of the cheap veg bad a few spuds. Weird as supply is normally plentiful, I can't see them giving away much Xmas Eve or even having anything left.
Try getting edible crackers, both Sainsburys and Aldi out and no eggs still anywhere.
I drove past Aldi at 7.30am yesterday, and the car park was full. (It doesn't open until 8am). 20 years ago there would be long queues of cars outside the Tesco Extra. The rise of the so-called discounters has put a stop to that.2 -

Some of those veggies would keep reasonably well in a cool place .
I'm planning on some of Delia's red cabbage & some coleslaw next week- reckoning they will keep but now I want the outside temps to drop they look fairly temperate!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I got 19p carrots, parsnips and a swede earlier this week - all sliced that afternoon with added onions to make up three bags of casserole vegetables to go into the freezer ready for slow cooker casseroles in the new year.

I'll not be bothering then.
I'm in the house and not going out until after Christmas apart from a visit up to my sister's.1 -

I have a huge veg soup in the pressure cooker must work out at pennies per portion.2
-
In true mse fashion I, too, am taking advantage of the cheap veg. I have 2 red cabbages to make Delia's recipe and freeze in portions. Also carrots and swede to freeze portions of mash. When I cook the gammon, I'll be making lentil soup from the stock. 😋
Fortunately, when the turkey and pigs in blankets and other bits come out of the freezer, I'll have some space. 😁3 -
OH reported that there was no wine purchased today as Lidl only had "oh, you know, the white wine with the 2 names!"
"Pinot Grigio?"
"NO! The other one that you don't like!!"
"New Zealand?"
"NO!!! AH! Sauvignon Blanc!!"
"But I like that as long as it's not from NZ, Aus or California!"
