Don't people realise they don't have to use the pump on the same side of their car's fuel cap?

I have tried it at BP but the hose is a tight fit when pulled around the car. The nozzle was near enough upside down which brings another issue of leaking fuel when you finish, which I equally I don't want dripping down my car!couriervanman said:
As already mentioned if you park correctly the hose will hang behind car........but some peoples parking whether petrol station or car park is shockingconfused.com2 said:I'll happily queue! New car and its well looked after. Don't want a hose touching it! Plus I remember recently at our local Shell, a motorist getting told off over the tannoy for stretching the hose over the car!0 -
How so? On one of my cars the filler’s just behind the driver’s seat, there’s a whole lot of car behind it.couriervanman said:
If you park car correctly next to pump the hose will hang at back of carburma_shave said:The hose can put nasty scratches in the paint or even in glass if it is dragged across the windscreen, same as jetwash hoses.0 -
I never use the 'wrong' side, though I couldn't really tell you why. Stuck in my ways, I guess. I like being next to the pump while I'm filling up.0

I just go a little more forward and take the hose round the back of the car. At my Tesco branch, the hose doesn't even touch the car and that's the same with most other places.burma_shave said:The hose can put nasty scratches in the paint or even in glass if it is dragged across the windscreen, same as jetwash hoses.1 -
What’s all this pumps, hoses and nozzles? Sounds a right parlarva can’t see it catching on. Just plug-in takes 5 seconds unplug and off you go. Full tank every day.5

If a full recharge only took 5 seconds then just about everyone would adopt electric cars.MX5huggy said:What’s all this pumps, hoses and nozzles? Sounds a right parlarva can’t see it catching on. Just plug-in takes 5 seconds unplug and off you go. Full tank every day.
(I know what you meant - just pulling your leg).

That’s all well and good but is the electric fuel pipe thingy long enough to reach the electric fuel hole whichever way you park your car?

Be careful stretching the hose to the other side, I had a nozzle jump out and dent my car once :'( (hoses must have been tangled up)

I always use the other side to the filler if there's queues for the others. The hoses always stretch far enough over the back window. I wear nice clean clothes, am quite short, a female, and have a big car without ever a problem in the 14 years I have owned the car. No scratches on the window, none on the precious paintwork either. No problem. The only pumps I don't like are the ones where you pay at the pump and I may want to use a money off token at the till or buy something from the shop.
