Oh, that must have been scary.

Do you know that Refuge offer a live chat line from 3-10pm? if you are at work and on line, that might be possible?

Woman's Aid offer a day-time chat-line from 10 am-6pm and email support helpline@womansaid.org.uk but you must use and account your OH cannot access.

    just checking.

Are you aware that some pharmacies offer women seeking to escape domestic abuse "safe rooms?"

Basically a consultation room where they can contact the necessary support network? Maybe your next step is to find out whether there is one near home or work?

Going for an appointment at the chemists is a lot less likely to arouse concern and you'd be guaranteed a certain amount of time for a phone interview.
    I didn't know that - thank you.

Have you spoken to anyone at work ? I actually approached my boss who was very understanding and allowed time to make some calls.

After 30 years of being in a controlling relationship (emotionally), I finally have taken steps to get out, and have found myself a room to rent, but now find I am scared stiff.  I have walked on egg shells, and been looking over my shoulder all these years and now I'm scared! Anyone else had similar experiences? I suppose I am scared of being judges for walking away, how I will cope, so many things.
You are a free bird now, go out and enjoy.
I am relationship expert. Don't feel shy, say hello.

    It's an expanding movement -
Boots, Superdrug, Morrisons and TSB as well as local chemists all offer safe spaces.

My boss is the biggest gossip - always tells you things in confidence that she should keep to herself, so I haven't felt I could go to her, unfortunately.

How do you get to and from work, does he take you, or do you travel alone? Can you get a couple of hours off work (for a dentist apppointment or similar) and just go to a local park to make a call? I do understand how hard it can be to get away by yourself for 5 minutes when you're trapped with a man like this.

I walk to work as it's just round the corner and unfortunately don't get time off for any type of appointments.
