What's the 'today's cost' based on? Is it based on one's daily usage? (We don't have a smart meter but if it is based on usage I'm assuming it's with the same formula as they use to apportion the month's usage to days of the week.)

I suspect it is your expected daily usage * the tracked, but uncapped rate.Spoonie_Turtle said:What's the 'today's cost' based on? Is it based on one's daily usage? Mine show significantly more than my actual cost for both gas and electric. (Which is why I assume it's the uncapped tracked rate)
What is your typical usage per day?

Summer months are slightly above 600kWh so ~20 per day would be about right. If they're using the apportioning formula, ~24 might make sense for a Sunday.k_man said:

(We're definitely getting a plug-in monitor because without heating in the summer we clearly can't blame all our high usage on the heat pump!)

Yes, 20kWh is quite high (FYI my overestimated Tracker is £3.55)
Time for some digging for you.
Maybe time for a why is my usage so high thread0 -

but we're only using a handful of kWh of gas a day at present.
On a related topic, Octopus's Tracker consumption model has recently switched over to thinking we'll use more gas each day as the year gets later, not less.

Mine's £1.10 too, generally use 2-4kWh of gas a day. Not sure how they are calculating it as they seem to have lost my data for August. Oh poppycock!Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I noticed the same on my gas bill. From the beginning of August they started to slowly increase the amount they estimate for I use each day. I don’t have a gas smart meter so they estimate daily usuage.QrizB said:

I would ignore their Tracker costs estimates. Mine is £1.08 for today for example yet they know I’m only using around 1.5kw/h per day which actually costs 16.5p + 15p standing charge or 31.5p.0

Thankfully the recent high usage threads have given me a few leads already, and the calculations of even small but constant power draws (e.g. the plug-in air fresheners - we don't have them but seeing that kind of small amount added up is eye-opening!) has inspired me to check everything we possibly can. There are four applicances we won't be able to use the energy monitor - either hardwired in, or plugs completely inaccessible - but it'll be a simpler exercise than experimenting with the heat pump will be.k_man said:Yes, 20kWh is quite high (FYI my overestimated Tracker is £3.55)

£3.55 sounds almost like fantasy! I recently house-sat for someone whose IHD was on the monetary usage screen and if I hadn't seen for myself such low numbers in comparison with our own bills, I'm not sure I'd have believed it. Being all-electric does factor in, but right now it should only be the hot water that differs and yeah, wow.0 -
£1.45 for gas. Clearly I am not in the £1.10 club 😄.QrizB said:

@Spoonie_Turtle, good luck with the usage tracking.2
