Well these are nice rates for the start of December.

Just a thought are others factoring their average price per kWh with what they get paid for the saving sessions.

I am but then I do like a spreadsheet.

That's the main reason for my in-progress switch to Tracker from Agile. There's not a lot to choose between them (for me) without the saving sessions. But if I switch to Tracker and turn off the batteries for the time being I'll naturally start using energy in the peak period, which gives me something to cut back on during the sessions. So by the time I factor the savings you mention in I expect Tracker to work out a worthwhile amount less. But time will tell - lets see how it goes.

Weighted average means taking into account how much is used. Easiest with an example. Say it's 20p Monday and 30p Tuesday, the average (mean) price is therefore 25p. (20+30)/2

Weighted average takes account how much used at each price. If you used 20kWh on Monday and 10 on Tuesday, the weighted average is ((20x20) + (10x30))/30 = 23.33p
  • 4.86 gas tomorrow elecky 20.23p... keep this up over the winter i be on a free summer holiday 2024
  • Yes I think I got that. If in contrast I just took the average of 12 monthly averages that would be incorrect. At one point I wondered if mysmartenergy & co could provide a ready baked solution but that may not be necessary,

In my experience the gain from the savings sessions amounts to no more than a mini bonus, a sweetener, compared with using the right tariff in the first place.. Is it not the case with these sessions that if you make a decent profit from economies in one period,  then that just sets (raises) the bar for the next session such that the profit quickly vanishes? Negative consumption excluded.  It might work better for high consumption load shifters perhaps.

No because days with previous savings sessions are excluded from the baseline calculation.
  • So the benchmark for (against which) achieving any economies and rewards in any one saving session is ...?
If some days are excluded are we privy to which days these are, in advance or after the event?

For a weekday, the previous ten weekdays for which they have data, excluding any weekdays which were saving sessions, going back a maximum of six weeks.

Couple of posts below that might help been discussed on these a few times as people get used to the new rules

Even better, if you share your Octopus data this link shows you your savings even before Octopus and the DCC have worked it out (caveat might be a few octopoints off)

  • To be blunt, if I've gone through the savings sessions motions twice or three times, with distinctly modest  results, I can't raise a lot of enthusiasm for going into the technicalities. I will intend to participate in future savings sessions so surprises could be in store. But I doubt it. Stake my fate on Wheels of Fortune (which you only get for giving manual readings?)

If you don't have a smart meter then that's true. Those with smart meters get 2 spins per meter with no manual readings required.
