Hi - I started a switch from Agile to Tracker online on Thursday and got a message to the effect they'd let me know when it was done, but there's no sign in my account either on the app or on the web of anything happening or even of having made the request. Does anyone know if this is normal or does it sound like something has gone awry? Thanks, Mike
It's normally pretty fast, unless you have a E7 profile and that needs to be changed to single rate. When people joined en-mass after the wait list was axed it took a few days. I had to wait for a meter profile change and after that I was able to accept T&C and see it on my account within 24 hours.

Thanks - I think I may have an E7 profile but I'm not sure. I was on E7 before I switched from EDF and I can still see both the registers on the meter but only one of them increments so don't really know what that means. I'll probably just wait for a couple of days and email them if I haven't heard by then.
What do you see in the app in your meter reading history? One register or two? If you have two, then you are still on a E7 meter profile and that would need to be changed before you could switch. If that's the case, Octopus should have asked your permission to request the change from your local distributor. It is then a waiting game as to when they make the necessary change (it took a little under a week for me). If you only have one register displayed in your reading history, then you are all set and there shouldn't be any reason for a delay.
I'd second MFB's comment about reaching out on Twitter if needed. I requested a statement by email a week ago (should be a simple thing to action) and have yet to receive a response.

Thanks both  - I've just checked and there are two readings although only one is going up. I'll try reaching out via Twitter although I've been living under a rock as far as social media is concerned so that's going to involve creating an account. I guess I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century eventually....
  • It ought to be possible to calculate a value that represents the weighted average cost of my Tracker kWh's gas and leccy over the past 12 months. Would the Tracker csv download spreadsheets be the best data source for this, or would another source like mysmartenergy or gastracker make the exercise easier? I don't think Lipman covers Tracker at present.

I'm not sure if Tracker bills are the same, but my Agile bills show the total energy and amount weighted average for the period they cover. If Tracker bills are the same you might find it easier to just enter that billing data into a spreadsheet manually and work from that - easy enough as you'll presumably only have 12 bills plus possibly the odd interim one.

I think that was the approach that I was contemplating. But using the raw data rather than the 12 monthly summaries

Perhaps do it both ways as a way of checking you get the same result? I'm doing something similar but for Agile and only 6 months at the moment. I'm getting the data direct from the API, easy enough to do but only if you're into programming. I haven't really looked at the spreadsheet data that you get from your account on the website but I assume that's the same that I'm getting through the API and a good place to go as it will be the definitive source for the pricing data.

Using the monthly summaries from Octopus's bills will give the answer. Add up the cost on each bill, and the number of kWh. Divide total cost by total kWh, and add VAT.
  • Yes I believe I can follow that. Somewhere I once heard that in such situations computing the sum of the monthly averages was incorrect. But I cannot remember the reasoning. Once I have a result I will put it into this forum iin case it sparks interest amongst other Trackers.

Not sure what you mean by "weighted average", isn't it just an average (or mean)? As Qyburn says, over any period you can just get the average by simply dividing the total  £ billed by the total Kwh used.

What you shouldn't (normally) do is average averages, bcause that will skew the results.
  • Your last sentence is exactly what I was trying to describe !

  • Well these are nice rates for the start of December.

Just a thought are others factoring their average price per kWh with what they get paid for the saving sessions.

I am but then I do like a spreadsheet.
