A couple of months over summer on agile shouldn't be too bad though.
Going to be interesting moving forwards as the wait list on Tracker along with the 30 day rule on switching between smart tariffs is going to make it harder to do the summer/winter swaps people have been used to...

I wonder how many of these new sign ups hold their nerve if wholesale prices were to start rising again and tracker prices for a period are more than the EPG, if they decide to fall back onto Octopus flexible they could be in for a shock if they think they can then simply jump back to Tracker when wholesale costs fall again.
Potential current EPG reduction of  up to 33.43p / kWh  against electricity unit rates / 6.7p / kWh against gas unit rates.

Would take a mega mega spike for tracker to go higher than EPG.
Isn't the EPG reduction against the caps on Tracker, the latest version has a 30p gas cap so would it just mean the cap is 23.7p after EPG reduction, with flexible at approx 10.5p it is still very possible if wholesale prices rise to be paying above the flexible tariff.

Everything is possible, no sign of it happening and widely regarded coldest months of the year are nearly passed.

Gas tracker AFAIK has never hit 30pkWh

But anything above the flexible tariff will be reduced down via the EPG, as low as the flexible tariff (capped at a maximum reduction of the figures you mentioned.  From their FAQ:

"For example, an electricity rate of 38p / kWh would only be reduced to 34p / kWh (on average).

A gas unit rate of 11p / kWh would only be reduced to 10.3p / kWh (on average)."

So there's a bit of leeway, any tracker price up to 17p/kWh (for gas) will be reduced to 10.3p/kWh.  Given it's currently around 6.6p/kWh, that means nearly a tripling in prices before you are worse off.

Good to keep an eye on, but as gas use goes down for summer, seems less likely to be an issue.

Doing the same calculation very roughly for electricity, you won't pay more than SVT until the Tracker price goes over 65p.

That's 61.9 ex-VAT. Tracker price is roughly (wholesale +20%)+7.8p, meaning wholesale price would need to reach 48p (£480 per MWh)

    Have I got that correct?

Tracker prices are well down for me today, 17th feb.. elec 21.9p and gas 6.06p. Hope the downward trend continues.
  • Gas is 5.99p/kWh today, wish I was on electric tracker! Agile has been as low as 11.25p though a bit earlier.

Customers who asked to go on tracker for any/all fuels before 9am on 15th February have been getting changed to tracker tariff.

Was very nice of you to take time out to write such a nice review bearing in mind you appear not to have been changed to tariff you were wanting to change to since January for electricity.

  • I spoke to Octopus about my DD and we ended up changing it to a variable as they advised it was probably the best option to reflect my low usage, but we'll see how it goes.

Yes I'd been looking at tracker & agile since the start of the year but since joining Octopus in 2018 hadn't ever switched tariffs. With eco 7 going up it prompted me to give it a try.

It was an interesting experience let's say and has ended up with us on Agile for electricity and tracker on gas. The detail on agile billing is amazing though this past month still shows electric tracker would the cheaper tariff for us.

Again I was being slow, thinking I should switch it soon and then that new sign up page appeared. I'll wait maybe another month and might give support another try (after reading various experiences from others via hotukdeals/reddit & here). Moving to agile was fully automated via the webpage and only took a few days to look completed on the online account page.
