Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread.
We often see new flyers (gents welcome!) around this time of year so please don't worry if you feel you cannot keep up. Similarly if your house has been neglected it won't be turned around in a day - but if you stay you will get into some good habits which do help! Happy flying.
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the
US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's
boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately,
necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to
make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just
gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in
the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT
control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
You're more than welcome to join us in the
everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to
make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make
time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules;
each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week’s
thread.
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as
Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for
lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related content! (i.e. it should
be on-topic)
The idea is that even if you are really busy you
don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please
don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must
do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will
help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week -
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put
there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are
anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen
and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals
etc.
Night-time routines are
all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes
for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying
the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth
etc.
Fling Boogie -
stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding
items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically
anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means
have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up
of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half
Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill
music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if
you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit
on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~
Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~
Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other
half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever)
~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of
the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~
miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~
pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or
wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put
back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it
somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot'
-the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and
have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all
joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for
this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the
one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its
potential!
MAD half hour
- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A
Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth
bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in
half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it
finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the
garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but
rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an
hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda,
Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Morning all, it's cold and windy here but dry.
Today will be concentrating on the washing mountain that is in the bath. It is all bedding and towels from New Year in the other house and what came back when we wintered the boat just before Christmas, yes that was a month ago I know. The rest of the washing is up to date and so is the ironing. I'm fed up with the mess in the bathroom so am going to do something about it today.
WM is on
TD is on

Narco the flowers for MIL are gorgeous, you will definately have made her proud of you
Jayzee and nnm huge hugs to both of you.
Not sure what my plan for today is - have not got a lot of oomph at the moment. Got up a bit later than I normally do and I think that has thrown me a bit.
Started taking Vit D last week and I can't actually believe it has started working already - my knees don't hurt so much now when I get up, or even walk. Plus I've noticed my hands aren't so crampy either. I did a bit of reading on Vit D and found out that my mood stabiliser actually lessens your Vit D which I didn't realise, but this must explain all my bone aches now. I didn't even realise Vit D effects joints.. You learn something new every day
Have to do my jobs this morning as DH has his Monday afternoon sleep (for his chemo) so I can't make too much noise and cleaning upstairs is not an option. I think I might clear out one of the kitchen cupboards, into a storage box ready to take to the storage unit tomorrow. I have several boxes that need to go down there so will take them down tomorrow - it will actually start to look like we are making an effort. Plus I will get rid of all the boxes stacked in corners, from my decluttering of the kitchen a couple of years ago.
No snow here it's just very very cold. You could tell I hadn't left the heating on overnight as it was still heating the house when I got up, from coming on earlier this morning.
So far I've decluttered the dog out for his daily walk with Dave. Thrown away some chipped plates instead of putting them away as I would normally do. Also decluttered the papers/magazines that neededed throwing away.
Spoons for everyone and for hugs and thoughts for those that are going through a tough time at the moment.Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

Morning all x
Up, dressed, floors swept and WM on (although the washing tablet has got stuck in the door, so it might have to be redone if it doesn't dislodge itself!!)
I have checked in with the 2 classes as the school is shut.
I was going to drop off stuff to Mum and friend, buthe car is snowy and icy and I'd rather not go out in it x
Going to have a look at todays classroom tasks and get on with the list .
Catch you all in a bit x9 -

Morning all
Im in, thanks for the lists xx
Paid stuff today and my zoom book club this evening... I had a nice relaxed day yesterday mostly reading my book and am feeling better for it. Dailies have been done before starting paid stuff, also folded laundry, wm x 1 swished and put on the airer.
I don’t think there will be a walk today as it’s frozen out there and I’m not that sure footed lol! I will do a few house jobs at lunch time to make up for not getting out and about.
have a good one, hugs and sticks and spoons and flylady dust aplenty to you all xx8 -
Hi, good morning and thank you. I'm up, half dead with sticky eyes, a swollen face and a splitting headache so until drugs kick in I am having a cuppa and a satsuma and not making space for an immense table in the back room!I have washing to get done, TD, DW, childrens to scrub and 4 zoom calls for various reasons.. 11am, 2pm, 4pm and 7pm ...
I need to sort Dots appointment on the 5th and send OH out for cat litter.
but for now... love and hugs and get well soons and copious amounts of caffeine to everyone..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)7 -
Morning all
Thick frost here overnight but it's lovely, sunny and dry out so the bunnies are out and I have a line full off washing - including bedding - bliss - I love line dried sheets.
Beautiful flowers Narco.
Fayolle - Happy Birthday to your DD
Dancemum - good luck with the job.
I'm in work 3 days this week so don't know how much flying will get done. But I changed my bed and cleaned my bedroom yesterday - including climbing up to dust the wardrobe. And I have moved 2 boxes from there into guest room. I also decluttered some packaging from there - I have skiwear to ebay for DD but didn't see the point while no-one can travel (know your market and all that). My ambitious plan is to get everything off the guest bed...
And find matching cushions, lampshades and curtains in an accent colour to go with grey - so maybe a dark red/plum or mustard. Goodness knows where from.
Just eaten YS croissants (avec buerre et confiture, Mademoiselle:)) for breakfast. No day which start with croissants can ever be bad.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear9 -
WM on, again!!!
Surprise zoom meet done with school (planned meet but as the teacher had to do it from home, she needed another member of staff present).
I'm going to look into doing L4 T.A. course... something to do in these times!!
Also want to pop to the shop for part baked rolls to use up the steak that's left over in steak and cheese rolls.
Right, actually here to fly....9 -
Good morning!
Thanks Natty for the lists, and thanks Valli for last week. I must try harder!!
Hugs to Fayolle, I hope DD had a good birthday.
Hugs too to nmm & Jazee.
Narc0 thinking of you today.
Slow start again here today. I have caught up on the thread, checked my bank accounts & emails. I have also stripped my bed and that is swishing. I have turned the mattress round (not over, as it is one sided). I need a new one really, but need to do the whole bedroom so it may have to wait! DH is giving DS's bedroom a wipe with mould cleaner/bleach. It is a tiny room that suffers badly with condensation (far too much stuff in there!) We need to do a meal plan, and go shopping, and I need to walk the dog. I didn't go anywhere yesterday so I could do with the exercise!
Have a good day everyone!9
