I am also with TalkTalk. My son and a friend in the village had been with TalkTalk
for the last few months with no complaints.
So I switched in November last year and have no complaints. The broadband speed
is about 4Meg which I find acceptable and is on par with my previous ISP Demon.

So I save moneywise, the wife can phone without putting 1899 or 18185 before
the call number. So all in all a big plus for TalkTalk.

I can`t comment on the service from TalkTalk regarding problems as I haven`t had
anything go wrong.I could just be lucky.
  • Hi I get the free broadband, but at speeds of 1Gb ie not very fast!!

I'm going to leave them when I get my act together as their "£19.99" bundle actually costs me about £40 per month by the time they charge for each time I call a mobile - grrrr!!!

I'm thinking about moving to BT because of the Voip hub phone and BT vision, but I'm going to do a lot more research as I feel it may be a case of out of the frying pan!

Also since I'm venting about Talk Talk, since they "upgraded" the exchange I'm on I get dropped frequently and the connection speed hasn't changed at all

Also I didn't get a bill from them for ages as I ticked the online billing option and they seem to be the only people in the world that can't access my e-mail address  . Just a word of warning for anyone about to sign up with them once you tick the online billing option there is no way to deselect it (not even the customer service advisors can do it!!!)

    Vent over :rotfl:

1Gb? That's the fastest internet speed I've ever heard of :rotfl:

    I presume you meant 1 Mb/s or more correctly 1 Mib/s.

I think if your exchange isn't an LLU/unbundled yet then you're probably experiencing higher speeds. FOR NOW!
  • Probably, I'm a bit of a technophobe when it comes to computers hence the hesitation in switching providers :rotfl: . I just looked at the Local Area Connection thing on my toolbar & it says speed: 100Mbps so yeah it would be 1Mb I guess :o

I know it's quicker than when I was on dial-up (thank God!), but not as quick as I'd like it to be

Can I get a programme or something that will tell me the exact speed of my connection???

Ah no. The 100 Mbps will actually be your local area network speed. I.e. the speed between your computer and your router in your house (even 100 Mbps would be fastest internet speed I've heard of in this country, for domestic use anyway). That won't be your internet speed. I tend to use www.speedtest.net to get a good indication of speed. Also the Gadget Show (channel Five) are doing a broadband speed campaign and have their own test and links of speed testers here http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/speed_test.htm

Better than me, my current phoneline can only cope with 2 Mbps maximum anyway. It's probably a good idea to do speed test numerous times at different times of day and night to get a really good idea of average speeds and how much it's affected by time of day. Only if you can be bothered obviously, but may be useful if you want to shove it in the ISP's face about being unhappy with their speeds.

How do you know what your line can cope with? I have had my line rental with talk talk for a few years and am now on this joke unbundled FREE package!
