the car also has NO silencers, I’ve been under the ramp while it was at Ford and seen that for myself.0 -

I compared to a friend who bought one after I did, and mine is a lot louder, so that raised my suspicion, and made me book it in to see if it had an exhaust leak of some sort.
it obviously came back that the exhaust wasn’t leaking, and upon further inspection of them dropping the exhaust down, they seen that the DPF had been tampered with.0 -
Why book it in to a main dealer to check an exhaust?0

Removing the DPF won't change the noise level from the exhaust one tad.
60dB louder is a HUGE difference. A typical unmodified car is about 70dB. 70+60=130dB is somebody using a pneumatic drill right next to you, not far short of an airliner taking off.1 -
Mikej92 said:Having never seen or driven one it wasn’t obvious at first, it’s also not overly loud at all times, mainly when it starts first thing in the morning (cold temperatures) it’s more obvious, and having drive it a bit harder, it definitely gets louder.

So, this is not consistent at all.Mikej92 said:What is wrong?Mate, the guts of my DPF have been ripped out, re welded shut, meaning there’s nothing inside(an open box) just like removing the internals of a catalytic converters.

No-one goes out and buys a Focus ST without knowing that they specifically want an ST version. It is not an everyday impulse buy just because the car looked nice and sporty on the forecourt. It is also the type of car that buyers are aware may have been modified or "blinged-up".
Has your friend got a normal Focus, or also bought the ST?
At the beginning of this thread, OP suggested they had no idea the car was modified. Now they say it has no silencers or anything. That will be extremely loud, and possible "cackle" - but not mistakeable for being "normal".
It is clear the OP knew this car was modified at the time of purchase, or did the modifications themselves after purchase, or is developing the truth to fit the narrative of a good story.
Either way, it is absolutely clear that a Focus ST with no exhaust silencers would be extremely noticeable.1 -

As for the extra sound, there's a lot of "performance" aftermarket exhausts for stuff like Focus STs - and increased exhaust volume is one of the "benefits" they're sold on. That would tie in with the car having been remapped.
Add in that this is a 4yo car being sold outside the dealer chain, not through the Ford "approved-used" scheme - go on, what other mods were apparent?0 -
One no more goes out shopping for a sensible family hatchback and happen to choose a Focus ST (aka ASBO) than one would happen to choose a Morgan.0

I said that I have never seen one in person, Nor driven one, not that I didn't know what the car was.
Based on correspondence via me and the dealership prior to sale, this car was un touched, I have proof of these chats luckily.
regarding the sound of the car again, it doesn't "cackle" and without hearing/driving one in person I wouldn't know what "normal" would of sounded like regarding one of these particular cars.
No, I didn't know it was modified.
Dealership is saying "if you put the DPF back in it will ruin your car", I asked him to advise what to do with regards to insurance which he replied with "If I was you I wouldn't tell them".
I've spoken with my finance company, they're now contacting him, so fingers crossed I get an outcome.0
