    Hi Peeps,
Still moving my pennies over when logging on. I am still excited about it, good job I'm easily pleased. In a very fortunate position as overtime is in abundance and I work part time. I am saving good chunks inpreparedness for full time retirement whenever that is. Habits are hard to change when you have had to scrat most of your life. (no one else's fault - just to pay for what you want to spend it on)

Lovely to read your post, thumbsup.  I love that ''scrat'' word.  I certainly know all about scratting after what seems like a lifetime of doing it.  It's only now that I'm debt-free (finally!) that I have a bit of slack in my income.  I'm already retired and will do everything in my power to stay out of that miserable state of being in so much debt that every month was an ordeal of running just to stand still if you know what I mean.  I too still  get excited about moving my 'spare'  pennies over to savings every daydance.  You and I must be twins, (except I'm several years older than you of courseroll

Just popping in for my regularly Sunday update. My online banking doesn't update over the weekend so it will be tomorrow, the start of a new week, before any of this weekend's savings show in my account.  Seems easier for me to update here on Sunday though, I seem to have found a workable 'system' and don't want to confuse myself. It doesn't take muchroll.

Managed to 'tidy' £39.82 since last update making £97.33 for September so far and £941.67 for the whole of 2021.

I hope you've all had a good week and will have lots of 'tidying' opportunities to come before September is overthumbsup.

  • Morning Peeps,
well last week I ended up paying twice for the house insurance on line. It is through my bank. I was not impressed when advised would take 5 working days to get it back. In real terms that equals a week! I have decided as it is payday next week I will manage, then when it comes back will move stash it away.
I have spent a couple of times on my card and logged on to move the change
I'm also due some money back from DSis as we shared on a present so am planning to save that too.
During last week I emptied our tin stash of change and will be taking to a local corner shop (saves them money too when they need change) to change up into paper money all £125 of it  . We did better last year in lock down as we had enough to treat us to an semi professional coffee machine. Needless to say this year it is earning its keep and keeping us in lovely home done coffee. Think we need to put some pennies in the tin to see how much can be saved again. (never did buy the expensive ones from the internationals - too frugal for that )

For those at the beginning of changes please don't be disheartened, it is all doable, its not a race, its the way forward. Stay focussed.

Great advice as usual, Scratters.  Thank youclap

Well done on your change stash. £125 is awesomedropjaw.    I used to put loose change  in my coin jar in the past, even though I had money worries and couldn't really save much as such.  I have a small purse though and was fed up with the loose change(mainly coppersdoh) forcing the fastener open all the time, hence the change jar. It never got really full though as I had to dip into it for small spends.  Since Covid hit I either didn't venture into any shops or else always used my contactless debit card meaning no coins ever came my way.  I got DH to tot up what was in the jar the other day, money that had languished in the bottom of the huge jar for a couple of years.  It only amounted to £11.25sob

I do miss having loose change lying around - it is always quite exciting gathering and counting it all! I remember mum used to save all her 5ps over the year and my sister and I would have it for spending money on holiday. I suspect I will not be doing the same for my wee one...

  • Nightmare couple of days with internet connection continually dropping out and staying out for hours on end..  I tried all sorts to try to remedy it but nothing workedhair. Reset my router again this morning , the 3rd time since Saturday, and it seems to have done the trick this time . I've never had to reset it before in years!  I'm not holding my breath that the problem is completely fixed though.  Technology, eh?  Can't live with it, can't live without it. I had no chance to come on here and do my usual Sunday update yesterday.

Last week I added £27.19 to the pot, making £124.52 for September and £968.86 for the year. I can't believe October is almost upon usdropjaw.  Where does the time go?

    Morning Peeps,
Well, checked my Tilly account and am up to £130.33. I'm happy with that. DH has done well on his too. Teaching him to log on to the app after spending on his card. Not aiming for anything in particular at this time just nice to see it increasing.
Planning to have a purge at moving bank accounts. We have 3 each just need to set some time aside to complete this task. wish me luck in getting it right.
@Fidelia as you say when it is working its great, when its not, well that's a different story. Good work on Tilly Tidying.

Final tidy for September.  Just a miserable £3.58 to add but every little helps.

Ended with £128.10 for September and £972.44 for the year.

My internet connection seems to be fixed (although I'm not holding my breath) after a telecoms engineer came yesterday and fiddled about with the wiring in the house.  He must be a genius as the phone wiring hadn't been updated since the '70s!  He was here ages but it's not going to cost anything at this stage. I'd be prepared to pay whatever it takes though for any updating work that might be needed from now on. My life can't function without the internet even though we live very simply with the absolute minimum of technological devices.  I'm the only one of us who uses the internet in this household. DH is a total technophobe and has no technology whatsoever.  He doesn't even have a mobile phone!

To 2Scratters and anyone  who drops in here occasionally, have a happy saving October

Ooh no, no internet would be a nightmare!! We do rely on it for everything...

Final tally for Sept was £20.93, so over the £20 mark this month at least, ha ha. Have just been approved for a debt of tens of thousands (mortgage!) so...feels a bit small balaced against that! I do try and think that I put it in premium bonds so may win enough to pay it all off at some point though :)

Hope you all have a spooky and savvy saving October.
