Tilly Tidy to £1825 by 31/12/2021!

Options
Log on to on-line banking at 9pm each night.

Move any change less than £10 into on-line savings (I use e-savings with same bank, little to no interest but out of the Current Account).

So if your balance is £754.32, move £4.32 to savings, leaving £750...

Average will be £5 a day, which gives £1825 average at end of the year; still time to start!
If super disciplined you can move lump sum into better savings accounts or premium bonds end of each month.

You can round down to £1 (£182 avg a year) or round down to nearest £5 if more affordable.

Not advised if you are in your overdraft a lot: goal then is to pay off the overdraft which is likely your most expensive debt.

£1825 should go a long way towards paying Christmas 2021 or paying debt; i'm going to split mine between Christmas and car loan.

GL!

I love the look of this. Am going to do to the nearest £1 though to start with as £the nearest 0 might be a bit too much in January.

Great idea for a challenge, IrishSean. Thanks for posting it.  Looks right up my street so please count me in.  Not sure how well I'll do as I'm trying to spend as little as possible this year (when have I heard that before??????) but will definitely aim to 'tidy up' every available penny.  Do we have to declare a target or can we play it by ear?

Wishing everyone a safe 2021 and happier times than in the year just gone.  Good Luck, all.

    Nice one all!

My suggestion is post up what your 'tidy total' is at the end of each month (spread-sheeting all this would be too much 😂).

I've £14.43 put aside so far; sub £10 tidy is going to be hard but i'll make a stab at it, am hoping it's not too painful on the pocket 😱.

If you are doing the £1, £5 or £10 challenge then best of luck!

Keep posting ideas, experiences both positive and negative. Mine problem is remembering to do the tidy at 9pm, lol. I think a smart speaker nightly reminder might be the way to go or a ping on the phone.

We're heading into national lockdown again this evening so if we are home anyway we'll get into the routine.

Anyone using auto-savings apps like Chip+1, please feel free to post up here.
Experiences good, bad or otherwise would be useful for forumites.
Ultimately if the AI used by those apps produces a similar savings outcome then it might well be a hassle-free option to daily log-ins to online banking.

I tend to steer clear of auto-saving apps and such like.  Where money's concerned I like to feel I'm in total control these days!  That's someone recently debt-free speaking after years of never having anything to save.

I'm aiming for the £5 challenge but that may be optimistic.  I'm trying to spend the absolute minimum this year so once my unavoidable direct debits have been paid, mainly arranged for 1st of each month, there might not be much change in my account balance over several days.  Will play it by ear and see how I get on.  I'm definitely up for this challenge though,

Checking my online banking over the first few days of this year was a bit hit and miss but I think I've fathomed what the balances were on individual days and up to tonight have managed to 'tidy' £25.20 into my new online saver.  Pretty chuffed with that.  Will try to sort out a signature now.

    Happy Tillying, everyone.

I use Monzo and it rounds up all my transactions to my savings pot, so not quite the same but still very good.
83p for me yesterday, as I didnt spend anything and had some DD's going out.

    Many thanks for posts @fidelia & @doily94
I'll collate everyone's savings towards the end of the month & post.
Chip+1 didn't appeal to me as it hands the savings over to an AI. I find logging on and doing the tidy myself useful for 3 reasons:
    1) keeping an eye or transactions & spending 2) keeping the habit of a regular save going 3) as a motivator for on-going savings as I see the daily & weekly pot rise.

On £34 so far and haven't really missed it as it's like a paper and a coffee spend that's going to a savings pot instead.

    GL with the savings 💪
