I must have misunderstood that we were supposed to 'seed' our pots at the outset, or maybe that is just for any late starters so they can catch up a bit.  I just dived in and started tidying. I also think I've completely overestimated how much I'm likely to save on the £5 challenge.  This last two days my saved total has been all of 5p so whenever I can I'll try to tidy to the nearest £10 to compensate.  I'm probably totally flouting the rules you set us by flitting between the £10 and £5 challenges  but I'm trying to save around £1825 during the year solely through tidying.  I hope this is OK with you, I don't want to mess up your great idea for a challenge

Yeah, sry the savings pot 'seed' was for the late starters.

So if your 'tidy goal' is anything less than £1 then your daily average will be 50p. This gives an average savings amount of about 50p X 365 days = £182.50 for the year.

Likewise if your daily tidy is to the nearest £5 in your current account, some days you'll have pence, others you'll have £4 something. The average will work out £2.50 per day so year end you'll have close to £2.50 X 365 or £912.50

For anyone wanting to tilly tidy to the nearest £10 your daily average will eventually work out at £5, so your annual savings pot will be close to £1825. (See example in 1st post).

Hope this helps & GL with your tidys!

Ive been adventurous; I had a no spend day, so that evening my current account was £740, so I tidied £10. The day before of course I had £761.92, so £1.92 went into savings.

Over the year it will be close to average...

Ppl could chose: if they have a no-spend day they can put the no spend to savings or keep it for next day's spend. Regardless of tilly target it's unlikely we'll have many days without something going into savings.

    Keeps the pot growing...

  • I do this sort of thing but I only do it on Fridays, in the last year most of my shopping is on line and so on the credit card, I only really buy petrol on Thursdays so it become a Friday thing. Can I join? I won't save 1825 but I will save something :)
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Sure thing Buffy, the more the merrier.

You can aim for the £182 (daily rounding down to the nearest £1) or £912 to the nearest £5.

If youre tidying weekly to say the nearest £10 in your account you'll hit a figure of £260.

I've just tidied £7.20 as my online bank account statements don't update on Saturdays and Sundays.  Signature has been updated.
I also won a £25 Premium bond prize but that's been squirrelled away in a different savings account to my Tilly one.

I've noticed  supermarket home deliveries are back to several 'missing' items again now.  Have to pick up DH's medication today so will pop into a shop for essential groceries.  First time I've been in a 'real' shop for months.  With a bit of luck it will mean I've some oddments to tidy today, I'll be paying with a contactless debit card.  It's strange that I'm happy to spend money just so I can save some:p
