  • @FrankieM being someone who had a ridiculously stressful job up until a year ago, I can say that for me the best thing to help me cope is going for a walk.  It gives me a physical outlet for the stress and frustration, fresh air eventually makes me feel refreshed and it gives me time to either connect with my thoughts and try to think of ways to work out the issues that are causing me stress or I can stick on a podcast / music and distract myself.  30 - 45 minutes usually does the trick and then by the time I get home, I'm usually in a better mood.  Plus getting out the house means I'm away from the temptations of food and I don't take money with me so I can't buy snacks while I'm out.

Morning all, what a beautiful day it is today.  We sat out in the garden  with a coffee earlier which was lovely.  Machine load of washing on the line which should dry quite quickly as there is a little bit of a breeze.

Well done on the 2lb loss Coxy.  That's a great loss.  Don't think I've ever lost that much in a week but then I don't think I could cut back to about 35 syns which is what you seem to be having!  I cut back a bit this week but still had I think 85 but that's still 20 less than usual and I still only managed a 0.5lb loss!

Frankie I was also going to suggest going for a walk as a stress buster.  I used to do that when I was working in a stressful job; I made sure I got out for a walk for 30 minutes at lunchtime and it really used to help.

Had to pop to the farm shop this morning for mushrooms, eggs and potatoes.  DH went to the butchers in there and ended up buying a big piece of belly pork to BBQ at the weekend!  Going to try to get at least 3 meals out of it but dread to think how many syns it's going to be - will have to look that up!  He also picked up some of their prime sausages to try but until we cook them won't know how much fat comes out of them to decide how to syn them - he's only bought enough for one breakfast thankfully!

    Today's plan:

    B - welsh rarebit - HEA2; HEB; P; F
    L - leek and barley soup - P; S; F
    D - carbonara - P; S; F

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - cheese
    HEB - bread
Syns - none planned (need to save some for Sunday!)

Have a good day and keep safe everyone.

An daily afternoon walk is going to become part of my daily plan so hopefully that will help. Thank you :)

Does anyone have any simple and cheap veggie meals or low meat meals that they can recommend. I need to cut my grocery budget and meat (especially lean meat) is so expensive!

I always recommend looking at Jack Monroe's website for cheap veggie / vegan meals.

DH likes a chickpea curry that I make which is basically chopping up an onion and frying it with some frozen peppers, add in a tin of chickpeas and equal amounts of cumin, coriander, and turmeric (about 1 teaspoon each for 2 people), pinch of cayenne or chilli powder (depending on how hot you want it), some veggie stock to cover and let it simmer and reduce, then add in a quarter of a tin of light coconut milk at the end.  Of course you can bulk it out with other vegetables if you want to.

Good old pasta bake with a basic tomato sauce - tin of chopped tomatoes, grated carrot, frozen peppers as a base with some tomato puree and mixed herbs which are cooked down for a little bit and then added to the almost cooked pasta, top with cheese and bake.

That's great coxy. Well done on your 2 lbs loss! 😁

I agree with denise that it's not easy having so few syns. If it gives you a boost then fine but longer term you might get fed up with it. One of the reasons many people give for giving up on 'diets' is feeling deprived. Just something to think about. 🤔

I'd agree about the walk Frankie but I'd add be kind to yourself. Pamper yourself a bit, have a relaxing bath, put on some clothes/make up/jewellery/perfume that give you a lift. It's not a coincidence that people who feel down 'let themselves go', it's all part of a downward spiral.

I think you already made the veggie chilli which is my favourite veggie meal. It's versatile too as it goes as well with a JP as it does with rice.  Stir fries are good too. They taste just as good with minimal meat or none at all. When I do a chicken stir fry for two of us I just use one chicken breast. I slice it thinly when it's barely defrosted and it's enough with the pile of veg that I use. I don't buy in bags of  stir fry veg (unless YS) but just raid the fridge and cupboard for bits of the veg that I'm planning to use for the rest of the week.  Veggie omelettes are the same (use any bits you have in) and I always have mine with a load of beetroot or other pickles. I find pickles are more versatile than buying salads although I do have spring onions, peppers and tomatoes as I can cook with those or eat them fresh. Soup is good for a light meal or to have before something light to fill you up. I like lentil best.  Then there's my absolute favourite egg and chips!! 😋🤣

I haven't done my meal plan or shop yet so will post later. KFC definitely features. 😋
P.S. Chicken thighs are quite good value Frankie

Thanks for that bubbs.  I've got pulled pork planned for next month so will definitely pick up pork shoulder next week when I go to Morries.

Lucky you. They were completely sold out in my local one and it's a decent sized store. I did ask and they say they're expecting a delivery on Sunday but we have two other stores nearby (one smaller, one bigger) so if I feel like a trip out I might try them tomorrow.  Visiting supermarkets seems to be what passes as my social life at the moment. 😁

Except for the sauce I did get everything I wanted. There is definitely a supply problem showing up in the shops though. I'm not sure whether it's staff illness with the suppliers or Brexit. Lots of gaps in Home Bargains the other day and they had signs up in Waitrose apologising for the poor range.

Super bargains in Asda bubbs. I buy a few bits for the Food Bank every week when I'm doing my own shopping  and I'm lucky that I can drop stuff off with a neighbour who helps there. They have  website with a shopping list on of what they're short of so I know what to get.

    Today's EE plan-
B- NAS grapefruit squash (F), HEB toast, HEA1 milk, scrambled eggs (P)
L- JP (F), cottage cheese (P), leaves, beetroot and spring onion (S)
D- Fake KFC (P), SW chips (F), carrot chips, creamy cabbage with HEA2, broccoli, mushroom, tomato (S)
Syns- HP sauce, Poets' Day Wine😁
