My brother has my parents' 1950s Denby Homestead mugs (3 Green, 3 brown) and a green Homestead 2 pint jug, all of which have survived for 65+ years being handled & washed up by varying ages from 7 to 75. Is it not made to be as robust nowadays?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

The shop that I felt unsafe in was on the ball today but another one I told them they've lost a customer and donations after being told it doesnt matter how many are in the shop. Again it said 4 but there were 7 in, we would have made it 9. My daughters not vaccinated and im high risk. I feel some of these charity shops dont give a stuff about their customers so we won't be back. Its their loss not ours.
Anyway I did go to 2 and got
2 French saxon usa bowls 50p each that are collectable
A cottage picture for my bedroom
A fluffy pillow case for a long pillow i'll use as a cat blanket
A egg hen thingy lol, you keep eggs in
And a blue spotty vase
So I did OK, and my daughter got a lint remover. (Exciting I know).5 -
another pair of unworn Majorcan-style sandals for £2. Navy blue leather this time.
A hot pink cardigan from Gap in lovely condition. £3.50. And a top from jaeger. Breton-style navy stripes with faux pockets with a yellow trim. Lovely neckline. £4.50.I also became obsessed today with brown leather handbags and bought two! One for £2 from Topshop - so worn and loved it looks vintage. Cross-body, and i adore it. And a Tula one in tan for £4. Very happy.7 -
@Fiona236 - I'm sure you're right to go on being cautious and to tell the shop why you won't be spending money there. In the end no-one has your best interests at heart so well as you yourself do and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and all that.
@Magpie100 - your haul sounded so lovely I rushed straight to your insta page to see and think the topshop bag looks a terrific, deep colour and the unworn sandals are a bargain. Well done you.6 -
Went hunting for plates for DD yesterday, unsuccessfully as it happens but found a small bagatelle game and a puzzle book for eldest Grandson to play with when he comes up for the half term week to stay with us £1.75 well invested!4

@goldfinches ah, so fun you can see photos of what I’m rambling on about! I am loving the bag; truly the older I get the more I love worn objects with a story. Happy long weekend!6

Went for my second jab on Sat pm and then trawled the shops in the nearby upmarket shopping parade afterwards.
First in the Scope shop I bought this Damart reversible padded jacket Reversible Coat - Navy Printed - WOMEN - Q584X - Damart for £8.50 which turned out to be much too big when I tried it on at home so I shall have to return it.Thankfully, the volunteer at the till told me that everything can be returned for a refund provided I have the receipt and haven't removed the shop's labels.
I also bought a lovely green, ribbed Gap t-shirt, £3, which was too big on the arms and too small round the 'chest area' so that's going back as well.
My third purchase however is a perfect fit and looks lovely on me so I'm keeping this Land's End t-shirt which cost £3.50.
This is the only image I could find online and I'm currently laundering mine so can't show you the front at all, it has a plain round neck and is made of a lovely thick, soft 100% cotton.
I also bought one or two things for the kitchen, which I'll put into a separate posting after I've had a think about what I'm going to donate on a one in/one out basis as my kitchen walls are not elastic alas.

Hello and welcome to Pennypincin
I returned a £5 pair of linen trousers that did not fit on Saturday and was offered either an exchange or a credit note. Couldn't be faffed with a credit note so even tho I was in a rush I had a quick squiz at the rails and to my delight I unearthed a pale grey, pure silk, Austin Reed shirt in great condition for £3.75 and added in a pair of tights and some knee high's to get my £5's worth. Very impressed with the way the shirt is made....no overlocking in sight just all French seams, (not sure but I always think this is a sign of a quality garment?).10 -
Waves hello to @Pennypincin and agrees that books are great value from charity shops and the thrill when you spot a hardback copy of one you've long coveted is hard to beat.
@Miró - concur with your opinion of French seams being the sign of a good quality garment and suggest that it might be in the time that it takes to do, especially with pure silk. I have always assumed that this is part of the justification for the prices of new items from some retailers but, cynically, wonder whether the people who do the sewing actually receive fair payment."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."
