On Saturday I bought a couple of Monsoon summer dresses for my growing niece, they were pristine and cost £2 each. Also a couple of heavy trivets for just 50p each.
The week before I'd bought myself a lined linen Betty Jackson summer dress which was a little too - "ahem" - fitted for £2. Sister clocked it last weekend, said she didn't like it but tried it on anyway. Suddenly she liked itNo man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.7 -
Not sure if its technically charity shop but I purchased a book from our local tourist information centre (they sell secondhand books for £1 each). Its staffed by volunteers so I'm hoping this goes towards their tea, coffee and loo roll or some such whilst there are there.
Read the back blurb seemed interesting, only to get home, Google (other search engines available) and find its number 2 in a series. Grrrrr

@Miró - concur with your opinion of French seams being the sign of a good quality garment and suggest that it might be in the time that it takes to do, especially with pure silk. I have always assumed that this is part of the justification for the prices of new items from some retailers but, cynically, wonder whether the people who do the sewing actually receive fair payment.
Made a couple of purchases from Oxfam in the last couple of days which is unusual for me as I find them vastly overpriced. Anyhoo...I bought a BNWT Pashmina stylee scarf in an ivory shade for £2.95. The label indicated it was cashmere & silk which I doubted until I saw the other swing tag which indicated it had been purchased from Macy's in the US of A....so I dunno?? I needed an ivory one and it has the right 'feels' so I'm not too fussed. Then today I got a pair of black M & S 'Evie' trousers, as new, for £5.99. I see they were priced in store at £35 and they fit well. At the week end I sorted thro my trouser collection and took about 6 or 7 pairs of black trousers to donate.....and now I've starting again buying new ones!!!!
Also today I called into the 99p St Gemma's shop in Otley and came out with an M & S Special Collection cream top, a black fine long sleeved T-shirt from George, an oversized cream jumper BNWT from BHS and a pale blue and navy marl sweater from Neutral Territory. I did manage to resist a pair of BNWT ankle grazer white jeans - only because I have just rehoused several pairs of white/cream jeans!7 -
Found a brand new M&S cardigan in black for £5 in Bridgnorth today. A pyrex pie dish £2 and 2 Ken Follet books for DH. First finds in ages. Very pleased with them all.8

Got round to returning the Damart reversible jacket and the Gap t-shirt to the Scope shop and had a browse round to see if there was something I'd like in exchange. I was thrilled to find a Land's End fleece, fitted, cream colour blazer and in my size for £7 which is in as new condition as well as being machine washable. Perfect for in-between weather.
A couple of shops further along the road and this stainless steel rack is ideal for my baking tins that don't stack well. It has all four rubber feet still in good condition and was a stealat £2.50.

Had a little trip to Otley today, haven't been for at least 5 years, WOW is all I can say about the St Gemma's Hospice shop, had to wait about 10 minutes to get in managed to get myself 4 tops, 1 Tu, 2 m&s collection & 1 m&s portfolio, not masses of plus sizes which I am but enough to keep me very happy. I also was looking on behalf of my size 14 friend who now lives in Edinburgh & misses the thrill of a good chazza bargain as the charity shops there are silly priced eg £4 for basic Primark tops. I picked her up an assortment of M&S, Per Una, Boden, Wallis & a couple of things that had had the label removed but are really nice quality. Think there might be a couple of things that are quite her taste inc a b young top which when I sent her photos said shed didnt like, just did a quick google as never heard of the brand all tops were at least 25 euros each. So thrill tto get 15 items for under £15, I didn't even venture upstairs to look at non clothing, chatty to the lovely staff/ volunteers & told if you know anybody with kids all kids clothes are 25p. Did spot a really nice pair of shoes but unfortunately they weren't my size can't remember the make but were leather & very good quality.
After St Gemmas the other 5 or 6 shops seem a disappointment but did pick up a nice M&S shirt in Oxfam for £3.99 BNWT.
Think Otley is definely on my charity hotlist now, sorry Miro for letting the secret out of how great St Gemma's is.
Considering this is St Gemma's discount outlet everything seem in really good condition, I saw very few things that were bobbly, fade or generally tatty which I have done in other charities discount stores8
