Morning all. I always forget how quickly this thread moves, must try and stay on top of it a bit more. I spent my entire day off on Friday shredding paperwork. When we moved 4 years ago, we just chucked all the paperwork in a massive box that we intended to file properly once we'd settled in. Well that never happened
and we've just ended up throwing more paperwork in the same box with every intention of dealing with it at a later date. Well Friday was that day. I lost count of the number of times I had to empty the shredder (I think it was at least 15 😳) and there was also a massive pile of stuff that didn't need to be shredded, like the envelopes stuff came in etc. It all went into the recycling bin and was merrily taken away this morning. I still have to file all the stuff that we needed to keep, so the job isn't done yet but I feel that just by going through everything, that was the main bit of the frog dealt with!
On the list of things to get done today are:
- 1 load of laundry
- Clean the living room
- Put away laundry in spare room
- Make a start on filing the paperwork
Hope everyone has a good day and will try to check in later.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 201711 -
Just popping in to say hi. Having a few days of rest but today up early enough to do live excercise class this morning. I sleep badly so cherish my lie in. Should be better once I retire.
On a positive note: I have confirmed that a neighbours son will take all the used paper I have and will take some once a month. He collects to raise money for the scouts. This is great. As I sort through my Sister's paper mountain it will regularly be decluttered. I will also add the wads of scrap paper I have around the house that I have collected for scrap but will never use.
Today I will sort out all my boxes of note pads to used and unused and start using them instead. Any confidential sort of waste will be shredded or snook into the confidential waste at work while I am still there.
Does anyone know where I can send a lot of used but perfect folders? (my next collection)

Good morning to everyone, hopefully I’ve read up on all the posts. Thankyou for the continued support Mrs SD and all!
My LO is having a wonderful morning drawing, making her own garden with plastic flowers, building towers with Lego and now is singing to her coloured crayons and organising them into colours and heights 🤣
so I have had time to wipe down all the kitchen worktops, hoover kitchen and hall, fold washing and find amongst it a couple of items for charity bag. Found a pile of old birthday cards. I decided to photograph a couple of sentimental ones so I can look at them on my iPad, and then they all went into recycling. I am aware this is Not for everyone but it will work for me - I can look back at them without having to physically store them. Will do the same and photograph some of LO old drawings - can’t keep them all - and will send some of the best ones to Grandma who hasn’t seen her (in person) for best part of a year and will be delighted no doubt.

Another week has passed and still I have not had time to read all the replies. This thread moves so quickly which I hope can only mean that you are all decluttering with a vengeance.
On Saturday I made the most of the bright weather and blitzed our bedroom and the ensuite, whilst hubby had another go in the loft.
Glass light shades taken down in bedroom and washed
3 dead lightbulbs replaced
Windows cleaned inside and out
Skirting boards defluffed
Crochet and knitting basket sorted, odds and ends binned, 4 balls donated to our neighbour's daughter who is trying to teach herself to knit by watching youtube
Unwanted hot air styler that I could not get on with sold on FB for £5, currently on sale in Boots for £7
Another drawer sorted, 8 gunky lipsticks and 2 eyeshadows binned
Ensuite deep cleaned, towels and mats washed, bin emptied, 6 empty bottles removed and recycled
Ironing basket emptied
From the loft, one single metal headboard removed, some more carpet offcuts to the bin, another 8 cardboard boxes for things we no longer have to recycling, a box of printer ink sold on FB for £16, a pram cover sold on FB for £10
I make that another 7 lots taking me to 38 lots decluttered since the beginning of 2021 and a net gain of £31
Keep up the good work

I worked my way through about half my 'my room' list yesterday. The floor is mostly clear (2 bags still bagged up) and I scraped the floor when it was clear (with a table mat but lego boards are excellent if you have children - basically when most of the big enough to see and pick up items are gone and you are left with a mix of tiny items and trash, scrape the floor clear). I spilled some brown lentils months ago, I got most of them but there were some left under the fridge/ freezer door, you can only see them when the freezer door is opened and I have to get very close as they blend with the carpet colour. Yesterday's mix was lentils, rubbish (odd strands of cotton) and sequins (including pearlescent ones - found some in the sheets near the bottom of the bed as well).
I made the bed for last night - it need more work but the bed was cleared, the mattress cover is flat (not yet on at the sides) and added two sheets and two lightweight coverlets. I want to put the mattress cover on properly, check the pillows and decide which pillowcases to wash (4th wash load in 2 days), remake the bed properly including the heavy cover.
I'm claiming a total of 15 for yesterday, I counted all my trips to the bin (2 - multiple items each trip), gathered the second washing line of binbags used for covering surfaces during painting, rolled them together and put them back in the cupboard, cleaned the carpet as I went along and also gathered items that I needed today. I had my diabetic eye appointment at 9 am today and had pills, toiletries, 'mini first aid bag', arch supports, dress and clothes I would wear + all the things I needed in my bag (2 pairs of glasses, one glasses case, phone to call for taxi home - charged up yesterday, diary - has new phone number in and a pen in case I needed to write anything down, purse/wallet with money for taxis -next town up so nearly £8 each way, tissues - they were in the glasses case, daily meds - in case I needed to list them, mask, gloves, appointment letter) to hand and booked the taxi. many of the items were things I had already sorted (mini first aid kit) but good to have them all in one place (should be on bedside trolley but need to clear that and put away anything I only need occasionally. Dresses hung up, several items in my clothes drawers and the 'drawer of doom' (mum stuff). My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage10 -
Out today a c'van mag, must have missed that one from last month, also a holy sock. Recycled 2 take away tubs which have been reused so often they are well past their SBD. Finished 1 large tub of bread flour, tub washed and ready for my next purchase ( still have another tub and a large toy chest full of flour from an online bulk purchase ) DH is sorting through some of his paperwork and I spy a large pile for OUT. Seems to include a couple of manuals for items no longer needed or possessed and there's a pile for shredding too. Yay! Sadly another glass has bit the dust, my juggling is not getting any betterHope everyone is well, hugs and healing vibes if not.nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10

Decided on a cleaning plan using a bingo grid for the rest of February so just put random rooms or things in boxes on grid - sometimes a whole room or part of (eg kitchen wall cupboards) - some are little jobs like porch but others take more effort. My DIL comes twice a month and does a clean through for me cleaning bathrooms, dusting and washing/hoovering all floors. She likes cleaning and it is a little bit of extra money for her although half of what I paid a franchise team before. This means I need to concentrate on doing the deep cleaning and inside cupboards and doors so plan to do everywhere once in February if possible. Today I tackled the utility room. It is quite well organised and everything is needed and used but the plastic box outsides were sticky and dusty and I was amazed at how much dust there was behind the boxes along with unseen cobwebs. Took me about 3 hours.
Gone back to calorie counting as decluttering on weight has slowed down to a halt. No longer collecting grandchildren as too much snow so I am going to dial in to a zoom meeting on offer from one of my history groups.
A small addition to declutter score - 9
1 Ironing done and basket empty. 1
2. Jigsaw boxed up to go to neighbour. 1
3. Last 4 boxes in utility room sorted through. 4
4. Random oddments to bin 1
5. Out of date jars binned 2

Wow! So many posts since I last had a read! I’ll get through them all soon.
I’ve not had a good week this week, lockdown is really taking its toll so I’ve slipped back into some bad habits. Feeling a bit more like myself today tho so once I finish work I’m going home to tackle the ironing once and for all. Nothing out last week and no plans to really declutter much this week. I need to get the place back to tidy again and take it from there xx8 -
