I've now had a 'sorry you're leaving' email from SP, followed by a text message, and now a phone-call to see if they could offer me something better. Of course the best deal they could offer was not at all competitive, but I humoured them before letting them know I'd be going ahead with my switch.

Out of curiosity what was their number from which they called you?  Had a missed call from an unrecognised number a few minutes ago so just wondering if it was SP....

I can't say I'm at al impressed by SP. I gave them the information they requested weeks ago and yet only today have I received an acknowledgement, along with a warning not to cancel my DD with Yorkshire Energy - it's a bit late for that!
If they were hoping to retain YE customers, even ignoring their silly prices, they could at least have tried to impress us with efficiency.

My gas supplier now updated to SP on the database - that's since this morning.

Very disappointed with how this has been handled. Scottish Power have put me on a Tarif called Energy Exclusive which you cannot select this Tariff on the Cheap Energy Club to do a comparison
As already mentioned more than once, it really doesn't matter. Just pick any valid tariff from any supplier, and switch to the cheapest recommendation in the report that you're happy with. The "saving" figure is academic unless you really need to know how exactly much SP would rip you off.

It might be worth someone updating the first post on the first page that people can reference to. I don't have time to go through 92 pages to find out advice.
If I change supplier then SP could reject the change and then what happens to my large credit I had with YE?
As SoLR, SP are not allowed to prevent people switching away from them if they do not want to stay. The large credit will eventually find its way to SP, and SP will have to refund it if it isn't consumed by energy they bill you. Ideally the credit will be transferred before SP generates your final bill, otherwise it may be necessary to go back to them and get a revised bill including the credit when the amount is known.
Correct but if you haven't "officially" switched yet and only 1 account is with them  then how can they let me move?
If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->

Can someone give me a link or web address for the national electricity database please.....
Find out who is your Distribution Network Operator then go to their website where there should be instructions about how to find out who is your supplier.

Being of limited understanding, would someone be able to explain the logic behind reducing their direct debit payments to SP, unless they were extortionally higher than they were to YE? Their SP charges will have to be paid in full eventually and until any credit finds its way from YE to SP, reducing payments may not cover ongoing charges. True, it's better to owe some money than to be owed it.
The logic is, if you have hundreds of pounds of credit being transferred from YE, and will only be with SP for a month or two, the credit may cover your usage without any further payments being made. It would be unwise to cancel the DD, as this will result in higher charges, so reducing it to the minimum permissible amount will avoid paying money to them that will have to be refunded later.
Well for me the higher charges are only around  combined 1.5p per unit that's total Gas and Elec no increase in SC on either gas or elec paying by card and gives peace of mind that SP wont be taking my money at a whim, think it will still be a pain getting back my large YE credit, without them have more of my hard earned cash
Why can't SP just take the payment I owe from my YE credit, I am leaving so they have to produce a final bill incl the credit balance and if it takes 6 weeks to produce a final bill from  the date of my switch surely that is plenty of time
I have not cancelled my DD yet but have reduced...

Do you honestly think that as YE went out of business barely a month ago, it'll be anything other than a long drawn out process for any company (never mind one of the big six with poor customer service) to get their hands on the cash that is left and to sort out paying it back to thousands of customers they've just taken on? Be realistic.

Forgive me!! but isn't the part of the deal being SoLR that the honour any credit balance where ever that comes from

Agreed.  I don't anticipate getting my credit balance owing by YE until March at the earliest!  Earlier this year it took until April before British Gas (SOLR for Breeze) coughed up what was due to me.  I had left them by mid-Feb.
