I'm thinking of initiating a switch today, although I cannot find the "Energy Exclusive Online" tariff on the mse energyclub dropbox, to compare?...
Some comparison websites (including MSE) seem to be slow in updating tariffs.

But if Energy Exclusive isn't showing, select "Basic Energy V2" for comparison. That's the tariff SP put Tonik customers on, and for my address is exactly the same as the Energy Exclusive.
  • Here is an illustration of what can go wrong if you attempt to switch too early. I initiated a switch after Yorkshire ceased trading, but before Scottish Power was appointed as the SOLR. Having only a small balance with Yorkshire, I thought I may as well give it a go. Will probably get my remaining balance eventually I thought. The switch to the new outfit, dual fuel  Gas and Electricity, successfully completed very promptly on the 23rd December with the national database for electricity updating to the new suppler from Daisy almost immediately, and gas a couple of days later. Scottish Power never showed up as my suppler on the national databases. I now wonder if this is significant? Hooray, I thought, I'm safe!

What do you think? Five days later I received a "Sorry to see you go", e-mail from the new suppler for the gas account. They had received a switch-to request from, wait for it...........Scottish Power! Another Five days later (yesterday) and Scottish Power attempted to "steal" my electricity supply in the same way. Fortunately the new supplier was easy to get in touch with and they have put a stop on both switches. I would not be pleased if these went through as, apart from anything else, it would cost me £60.00 in early termination fees

One of the problems may have been that I have been a customer of Scottish Power"s in the past. I was still able to log into my account and I am shown as switching to a new contract with them, going live on the 18th Jan. I also received the email in December that others have mentioned, asking for meter readings, which I provided, as I will owe them a small amount for the 16 days or so that they were providing me with power as the SOLR. My fear is that they may make another attempt at taking over my power and I will have to go through this whole rigmarole again, and again, and again. Has this happened to anyone else I wonder? Incidentally the chat operator from my new suppler, told me I am not the only one, and Scottish Power has been attempting to switch others  who they ever had an account with, back over to them. Am wondering whether to contact Scottish Power, or if trying to do this might just be complicated, and or, complicate matters, or to just wait and see what happens? Isn't life exciting?

Obviously if you're not planning on staying long it may work out better to do it for the cashback, but if prices don't fall and you stay there longer, you might be better off with cheaper rates.
Thanks. I hadn't considered that going direct could be cheaper, are there any other suppliers who do that? It's 62.9 a year more expensive going through a comparison site, which means I'll need to switch in 6 months to make it worth while.

I'm unsure if it would apply to other providers but I guess so. I think because Avro must pay the comparison site a commission, they claw that back through the tariff.

Use the Citizens Advice energy comparison, that seems to show all available tariffs, even if they are comparison site exclusives. I think Which? is also a good comparison option.

Given nobody else has reported issues with their switches, I've taken the plunge today and started mine. Will report any problems, but I'm fairly confident there won't be any.
Good luck!  My electricity switch to Green has just been rejected for the second time since the National Powergrid database started showing my supplier as SP on 30 December.  I'll ask Green to try yet again, but I'm not holding my breath.
Oh dear, that doesn't bode well.
On checking my SP account this morning I see the "We're sorry to see you go." message for my electricity only account, so that at least is looking encouraging.
My new supplier states "Passed industry checks: The industry has checked that it has all the information needed to switch supplier and if that information is correct (to its knowledge)."
I just spoke to Green.  They point out that the switch has been rejected by "the industry", not by SP.  Green's "industry team" is now saying that there is a 14 day wait from when the switch to SP was first recorded on the national database (30 December in my case), not from when the switch actually took place (6 December).  So Green is going to wait until 13 January before trying for the third time.  They say they have other ex-YE customers in a similar position.

I'm not sure who is meant by "the industry", but presumably it means the distribution company (Northern Powergrid for me).  So maybe the issue is inconsistent interpretation of the rules between different distribution companies?

  • As per several other ex-YE posters here, both gas and electricity are now showing Scottish Power so I've decided to go ahead and chance a transfer.
In my case I've decided to go with Outfox The Market with a 1 year fixed deal with zero exit charges so I've got certainty of cost but can get out if prices go down.
Hopefully my biggest issue now will be getting Santander to recognise them for the energy cashback on our 123 account - their cashback checker doesn't seem to show them :/
Hope for you that OFTM has changed I was caught up with them before YE had nightmare with them altering DD trying raise mine even though I was over £180 in credit
Good luck at least you can switch without a fee
I am going with Avro as there is no exit fee and it's fixed and customer service seems good looking at the reviews

Where was the message showing from SP as I've not got any messages like that on my account yet? Who did you go with?  In the end I went with Simplicity (as it was about the cheapest fixed deal supplier that seemingly didn't have dire reviews...although I'm not keen on their £50 per utility exit fee). Fingers crossed it's not out of the 🍳 and into the 🔥
It's shown at the top in large font, above account number and supply address. I went with Octopus, they were hardly any cheaper, but I picked up a referral from the refferer's board so will be getting a £50 bill credit on joining. That will offset the extra costs I've faced through this affair. Looks like you can start to refer people immediately on starting your switch too, and there are no exit fees. They also have very good customer service and quick responses to emails according to the reviews, so if anything goes wrong because of the SoLR oddities I'll hopefully be able to sort it out easily.
That bill credit is a better deal than the one I'd seen on virgin red, where 5000 points only buys you 25 Gregg's sausage rolls 👍

It really doesn't matter what you choose for your existing tariff, just note the absolute amount of savings calculated may differ slightly. I'd recommend using the citizen's advice comparison tool. It seems to cover more tariffs and does include the Energy Exclusive Online tariff.
Thanks Masonic, Although I do worry about the prices on the citizen's advice comparison tool, as when compared the unit prices on the "Avro Simple and mSuperSaver12M" tarriff, with the mse energycub or moneysupermarket, unit prices, its priced lower giving an extra £93 off my result. even though its exactly he same tarriff. and i made sure all my usage numbers matched ect....

But then in deeper discussion said they have no problem with initiating a switch to another provider and critically would not BLOCK a switch!

I had a surreal discussion in december where they told me that they wouldn't block the switch, but I should wait in case the computer system got confused. Like an idiot I listened to them.

Trying to call them now they keep me on hold, answer and all I hear is background noise and then they put me back on hold or hang up.

Yes, electric only (no gas here).  The region is Northern Powergrid's region (Northeast and Yorkshire).
