One of my previous providers (can't remember which one) set up a DD and took the first payment in the minimum possible time for a new DD set up.
I hope my new one does, otherwise I'm going to need another direct debit to meet the requirements for that account.
I'm kicking myself I didn't ignore the advice as all the deals are rubbish now. Avro on quidco with no exit fee is going to be my holding tariff. Not being able to plug the scottish power tariff on any comparison website means I'm leaving blind, but as scottish power haven't even emailed me so I can get online then I'm pretty sure I don't want to be with them.

From what I saw a few pages back of the tarrif we seem to be getting put on, the gas cost is literally double what YE was on SP.  Electric was something like 15p vs 14p on YE so not such a big difference.  Of course its gas that most will be using right now to heat their homes in the cold weather so SP will be cashing in big time until people switch.  You have to wonder just how convenient it is that the gas supply has taken much longer than the electric to show up as SP, since it's the gas they are making a packet on and the gas that has held up people being able to switch away, how convenient for SP.

Well the Citizens Advice Bureau Price Comparison website does recognise the Scottish Power Energy Exclusive Online so no need to fly blind at all.

Use Basic Energy v2 if Energy Exclusive Online isn't available (it's the tariff ex Tonik were put on and, for me anyway, it was the same as our SP one)

I'll hopefully find out the answer to that one soon as I initiated a switch on the 1st once both utilities were updated and showing on the database as now being SP.  I guess if it's rejected I'll hear early next week.
Hope that this is indeed the case and that you are not rejected - you will be the canary for many.  As of now,  I am still registered as being a customer of Daisy/YE for gas but electric has gone over to SP.  If you do get rejected when both have been transferred then obviously something else is going on that nobody has forseen.
Just had a text from new supplier to say they've applied for the switch so will wait with bated breath to see how it progresses...

Consider going to Avro direct, rather than going via a comparison site as they are often cheaper.  I got the following:

                  Quidco                         Avro Direct
    Gas 2.651 p/kWh 19.950 p/day             2.557 p/kWh 15.750 p/day
    Electricity 16.012 p/kWh 19.950 p/day           15.225 p/kWh 15.750 p/day

Obviously if you're not planning on staying long it may work out better to do it for the cashback, but if prices don't fall and you stay there longer, you might be better off with cheaper rates.

Just checked, my gas and electric supplier registered as SP. Logged on to my SP account, balance nil. Clearly SP haven't totally sorted opening my account. Can't find any detail of any details regards the YE switchover either.
    Q. Am I in a position to initiate a switch to a n other energy supplier?

How have people managed to log in to these accounts? I have heard nothing from SP since the original email!
I have checked the electricity and seen that is now with Scottish Power. Direct Debit has been setup, but no further information. It is for me turning into another Breeze to British Gas catalogue of shambolic idiocy.
  • Hi All,

I'm way behind the curve on this - the original emails early in December went into my spam so I picked this all up later. I wrote down a meter reading on 22nd December, and clicked through the 'allow DD information to be sent through' on about 23/12/20. There's a DD set up with my bank to Scottish Power but nothing has been taken (my YE DD would have gone on the 1st). The DD has an account number on it, so I have been able to set up a scottish power online account but it just says 'under way' and won't let me put in a meter reading. I've checked who the current gas and electricity supplier is for my house, and it's still showing as YE. I've tried to call them just now to see if the meter reading from 22nd December is useful, first of all it rang for ages then dropped to 'number not recognised', then just rang and rang, then I got 'lines are busy', and just now I got 'our lines are closed for the festive period'.

I'm not planning on staying with SP, so I guess it's onto the comparison sites I go.... watching this thread with interest as most here seem to be a bit further forward

Without being 100% sure of my SP rates, despite being told them verbally but unable to see them online, I'm unsure whether to switch atm. I know my best new deal option, Green Network essential greenv4, not the cheapest but I have absolutely no interest in smart meters so I'll be ringing SP tomorrow for an up to date status of my account/rates. Am I hopeful of some positivity from SP tomorrow, I want to think so!

Check the national database through your energy distributor. If this is showing as SP, then you should be ok to start a switch.

If you can obtain the reference for the DD, that is your account number. It can be used to register an online account at SP.
