Could someone please clarify for me exactly what happens with credit balances from YE if you transfer straight back out of SP?  I was £140 in credit with YE and don't want this to disappear down a black hole if I transfer from SP straight way
If you switch out of SP, then SP must issue you with a final bill within 6 weeks of that switch completing. That could be ~ late February. When OneSelect failed on 10th December 2018, final bills were issued around 13th February. I had already switched out from SoLR at that point, but had not been issued with a final bill, so it was added on when that bill was produced. I don't know what would happen if SP reaches the deadline for producing a final bill, but YE has not done so. Potentially you would have to go back to SP as a non-customer and chase it as if it were a billing error. I don't think I'd let that put me off switching away, as it could be costly to wait.

When requested by SP to send a meter read in the email on the 7th I did so and the same day started a switch to Neon reef. Today I received an email from Neon reef confirming they have taken over my supply. Under their terms and conditions they will pay me the £30 exit fee cost to leave YE with an up to £36  maximum , provided I switched through their website. This amount will be credited to my Neon account when and if it shows up on my final bill from the YE administrators which I expect will arrive in a few weeks so hopefully I was paying YE electricity rates up until today 3rd January.

(cross posting from other thread discussing 28 day wait)
An Ofgem paper from a few years ago stated that a supplier cannot submit an advanced registration for a meter point until the 11th working day after the old supplier has been registered as supplier of that meter, citing the Master Registration Agreement in force at that time: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/system/files/docs/2016/04/agenda_item_4-advance_registrations_paper.pdf See page 4 and appendix 3. The specific condition cited was 15.5.3.
The current Master Registration Agreement (last updated 21st August 2020, https://www.mrasco.com/download/6454/) has had that condition removed and it appears there is no longer a lockout period after a switch has been registered on the database.

I don't think in any event you will be paying YE rates until 3rd January. YE ceased to be the electricity provider on 6th December. They were in administration so can't be your provider.

YE final bill will be based on the readings you gave to SP on 7th December.

You will have to pay SP (at "Energy Exclusive" tariff rates) for the electricity used between the reading on the 7th December, and the opening reading with Neon Reef.

I don't think that's the case. Can you point me in the direction of anything that suggests the SoLR would be entitled to bill customers other than those whose supply it takes over?

I gave my meter read to YE on 1/12 which generated a £22 bill, they couldn't take my fixed £21 on 15/12 as I had cancelled my DD , I gave a meter read to SP on 7/12 which showed up on my now missing meter read page on YE dated 5/12 and gave an opening read to Neon on 29/12 who will be taking my fixed £22 today.
    YE was 14.1p kwh/10.2p sc
    SP 15.8p kwh/20.7p sc
    Neon 14.3p kwh/12.1p sc
This is for the north west Norweb area.

I could be wrong. My understanding was that the defunct provider can't provide after the date OFGEM appoint a SoLR.

But now I think about it, if someone already had a switch underway when YE went bust, they might not provide opening readings to the new supplier until after 7th December, so in that scenario YE could technically bill for usage after 6th December.

It will be interesting to find out what happens in practice. It is unusual for there to be a window where customers can switch out following the appointment of SoLR. Someone seems to have dropped the ball in this case, hence the long period before those of us now with SP were registered on the databases. The SoLR process involves revocation of the failed supplier's licence on the same day the SoLR is appointed, but the implication on those already in the process of a switch is not spelt out.
