  • Well my DD was not taken on the 22nd Dec so I take it it will start on the 22nd Jan good news for me SP will only have 1 DD from if any obviously dependant on the switch
As soon as I can switch I will be doing and when the switch starts I will cancel the DD with SP, I have over £200 in credit on my YE account and if cancelling my DD puts me on a higher tariff I will take it up with them as I had an active DD setup like they asked
This whole mess of deemed tariff really needs looking into it should be made so the customer can switch away within 10 days and SP or whoever is the SoLR only get the captive customer for a short while

If they try to charge a higher tariff when you had an active DD up to the point you left them, they will not succeed if you complain. Despite no indication of SP gaining any of our supplies to date, it is still possible we may be able to leave SP before 22nd Jan.

The easiest fix is for Ofgem to waive the 14 day cooling off period for SoLR switches (you can't exercise your cooling off rights anyway). SoLR would still be able to claim costs etc, and might be further incentivised to offer a tariff that people wouldn't be in a hurry to leave.

I completed the details online (except Direct Debit, at that time I had no idea of the tariff, and I've a large credit balance from YE) on 7th December, but have had nothing from them since. I have no account number or welcome pack so can't go in and set up a DD. My next payment would be due early next year.
Just now I phoned and got through to SP. The operator acknowledged something had gone wrong that I'd not heard from them and put me on hold while he sorted it out .... and after over 10 mins the call dropped out.
Not sure whether to try again, having at least tried to raise this with SP, it would be their fault if I can't get a DD set up until next year (and there's no mention of a higher tariff for non-DD anyway).

There is mention of a higher tariff for non-DD. But they will receive bank details from YE based on comments from others. Providing there is a DD in place when they come to bill you (which won't be for a while) it seems unlikely they'd put you on the higher tariff. It's worth remembering details of any credit balance you have won't be available to SP until YE issue their final bills. I don't think in your situation there would be a problem insisting on being billed according to the DD tariff provided you cooperate with any attempts by SP to confirm your bank details.
  • The morning before YE went bust (02/12/2020) was also the same day they asked for my meter readings. I did this and noticed the prices had been increased so started a switch to PFP. I contacted YE on the morning of 02/12/2020 with a query about my bill and they responded. I replied to this response and a few hour later they replied to me to say they had ceased trading.

Today is the day my energy supply was due to switch to PFP. I have checked my electric supplier and it is PFP but the gas is still showing as Daisy. Not sure how long the system takes to update.

Yet the email from ScottishPower was clear on this point:
To help us set up your account correctly, please click below to provide us with information we need, such as your meter readings and Direct Debit details.
    ...
Please note that without your Direct Debit details, you'll have to pay for your energy by cash or cheque, which may work out more expensive for you.
YBR apparently did not provide their direct debit details so can't complain it they're initially put on a non-direct debit tariff.

The ' OFGEM forced' switch process is indeed flawed as the system needs the same amount of time for a switch away from a failed supplier as it does from a non-failed supplier.  Why this is the case is beyond me but there it is!  Having experienced the Breeze failure 12 months ago has left me knowing that the whole process from the system registering me as a customer of SP to leaving them successfully will probably take until February with at least another month before I get any balance due to me from YE (via SP)

Interestingly I have been monitoring the 'deals' from comparison sites day by day and it is quite clear that the EOY deals from most of the suppliers have all but dried up (no surprise) and the 'exclusive' SP deal (if it remains as it was from a couple of weeks back) is not looking as bad as it did in early December.  Having said that I just checked today's offers and almost out of the blue AVRO are now showing as the cheapest but no doubt it will be all change again at the point we are able to initiate a transfer.

One poster so far has complained that after refusing to provide bank details SP has been provided with these details from YE and the individual has been asked to confirm those details can be used by SP to set up a new DD. If any other poster has not been afforded the same courtesy, and has phoned SP to provide the details but been cut off mid-call, then if SP makes no attempt to contact them, they could reasonably complain of unfair treatment.
  • Scottish Power have just toss told me via DM on twitter that they will take over my supply on 30th Dec, and that I would be free to change tariff /switch supplier from that point. Assuming that this turns out to be true, would I need to wait a week or so before trying to start a switch - from what I've read here, it seems you can only switch once every 28 days.

It would be best to see when SP are actually registered as your supplier and time it from there. There is a chance they will take over your supply tomorrow, and a switch could be started ~30th to complete on 21st January, for example. If they really do not gain the supply until the 30th then a switch would have to complete a week later.
