I have heard nothing more from them since that initial email on Dec 7th  but my SP direct debit has been set up. Am I right in thinking that they are required to give notice before collecting the first payment?
They are supposed to. However, I logged into my online account to see they are planning to take my first payment on 22nd (and I only was able to do so because I guessed the reference was my new SP account number and was able to register using it). Perhaps they'll argue that it is a continuation of the agreement we had with YE, although I don't think that would stand up to being challenged. This could be a way for those with large credit balances to claw back a month's worth, though it would be best not to cancel the DD entirely.
just logged into mine, DD set for 25th (as per YE) but cannot find any of the tariff unit costs & standing charges..... after the simplicity of YE (and Bulb before them) SP's website is utter $..... (something that rhymes with site ;) )
Yes both Bulb and YE had very nice sites and a great billing system. Don't expect SP to measure up on those fronts! I suppose it has been a good few posts since this link has been posted, so here you go: https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/gas-and-electricity/our-tariffs
Second one on the list, "Energy Exclusive Online", click the "View Tariff Information Labels" link and enter your postcode and supply details.
yes, I had got to that page anyway and it still doesn't show the tariff rates, but thanks
Yes it does. You just need to click the "View Tariff Information Labels" link and enter your postcode and supply details, and you'll be provided with a list of tariff rates for all of the tariffs on sale. You just need to click the 'view' button next to Energy Exclusive Online.

    Wow, my condolences!
  • I see my account online at SP and it says DD 22nd of each month, it does not say it will be collected tomorrow
I have over £200 of credit with YE would I be within my right to cancel the DD without being put on a more expensive tariff

No. The discounted rates are for those that pay by DD, so you need a DD active.

No different to when you were with YE, even though you had a credit balance, they still take the DD each month.

This is a good point, and means that even if you have seen this in your online account, you can genuinely say you have not been informed about a December payment and would be entitled to reclaim it under the DD Guarantee. Keeping the DD active would be advisable though to ensure you are on the discounted tariff for your first SP bill.

Out of interest, to those of you who have found out the date of your direct debit, is this anywhere near the day of the month your YE payment was taken?
