Looking good so far. I might be tempted to stay with Scottish Power. My feeling is that this sort of thing is going to happen again and again to the small companies so even if I switched I'd be looking at a bigger player. Scottish Power is coming top or near the top  of the MSE Cheap Energy comparison site for my post code. Yorkshire Energy offered a cheap deal, but look what happened.

If I were in the same boat, I'd probably do the same, but I can save 20% by switching (though some of those savings could fall away by the time I can actually switch). I reckon I'll pay about £20-30 extra as a result of this situation, which is a fraction of what I save over a year by being on a cheap deal.

I'm afraid this has happened at a very bad time for us as the good rates we might be looking at switching to are disappearing almost by the day. Perhaps not surprising as I noticed a report that wholesale gas prices have risen by 15% in the past week!

You could have a fixed term contract with any supplier which finishes at some random point and that point could be a bad time to switch. I suppose if that were the case you could switch early and swallow the cancellation fees. It is what it is and there are more important things in life than spending a few quid extra on gas and electricity. As I said before I am going to willingly pay more to be with a big name supplier to avoid this all happening again - as it will. The Yorkshire Energy debacle has proved that the cheapest tariff isn't always the best in the long run.

Indeed, it might be that a deal you get on to in January will see you through much of next winter at a lower price than would have been the case if your YE deal had survived to its natural end and you had to  renew, say next summer.  It's impossible to guess what will happen next. This time last year  you could never have predicted the very artificial lows we saw a few months ago.

Edit: looks like the reference is your account number, so you can use that to set up your online account and track your switch. - I'm in and I can now see SP intends to take the first DD payment next week.
Yes indeed it is.  New DD arrived overnight and using the reference able to do as you did.  It states a DD amount (same as specified in initial link) with a 26th December date - so I expect to see that going out on Monday 28th December!

The biggest problem at the moment is that all the good, cheap fixes have been disappearing from the comparison sites at a rate of knots.....there'll be nothing decent left to switch to by the time SP sort themselves out  :s
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • My DD appeared today. Nice to see SP get there priorities right by them getting there money and not even a e-mail or letter to say what is actually going on

Nice to see some of you have DD's setup, mine I don't know I have nothing.
Honestly this is turning into another Breeze to BG drama.

Every cloud has a silver lining... if there are no cheap fixes available by the time we are able to switch away, it will save the effort of going through another switch and reduce the time-sensitivity around final YE bill issuance and credit transfer.
