Holy Carp!! That deemed tariff works out at a whopping £242 p.a. more than what I was paying YE....I knew it was going to be a fair bit more, but that much? Rip-off merchants, they've just confirmed it again...

If I want my credit, am I right in understanding from the email that I have to wait to be transferred to them, wait for the credit to be applied to the account and then switch? Or is there an option in the initial detail process to get it via cheque?
They have offered a cheque as an alternative to an account credit, but there was no question about this in the initial customer details form. If you wish to opt for a cheque, you might be waiting some time to receive it (I doubt any cheques can be issued until final bills are produced by YE) - entirely possible if you switch again quickly that you won't have it by the time you leave. Whereas any credit on your account when you leave may be refunded by bank transfer.

Both myself and my parents were Yorkshire Energy customers, albeit on different tariffs. I've just crunched the numbers based on the new SP Energy Exclusive Online unit rates and I'm going to be paying approx £50 a year more but my parents are going to be paying £175 a year more. We botjh need to switch elsewhere ASAP but because I can't do that until Scottish Power have confirmed that the transfer over to them from Yorkshire Energy is complete the best tariffs currently on the market are likely to be long gone by then. Very frustrating. I'm annoyed at myself for not being up to speed that Yorkshire Energy had folded until I got the email from SP this evening.

One question I have and apologies if this has already been answered. My next YE bill had been due to be produced in the next couple of days. Will I still be billed at the YE rates right up until 6th December or will the new Scottish Power rates be applied from when my last YE bill was produced (ie 10th November).
There is nothing you could have done if you'd known about YE folding earlier. You will be billed by SP for energy used from 6th December, based on the readings you provide or an estimate.

I have received the same email from SP.I have also received a email from YE stating-

Please call us to reinstate your direct debit as soon as possible as, without an adequate direct debit in place, your account will build up debt and you may face a penalty for any further failed payments.I cancelled the direct debit this morning.I am not going to pay two direct debits.Anyway i have over £250 in credit so i am definitely not going to reinstate the YE direct debit. This is not going to go very smooth i fear.I shall be switching away from SP as soon as i can.I will make a new direct debit with SP.

You had better reinstate it as it's also used to pay your credit back, unless that balance is automatically credited to SP

Anyone know if SP put me on a similar plan (fixed) but more expensive, will they wave the early exit fee if  I choose to go to another supplier? After all SP is not my choice?

Yes, as I understand it SP is putting us all on a variable tariff with no exit fee. Whatever you do it would be a good idea to get onto a fixed tariff, whether with SP or elsewhere, as soon as possible.
  • So I checked my YE tariff against the new Scottish Power tariff. Economy7 meter looks like the night rate has infact gone down by 0.5p! On the flip side of that however is that the day rate has increased massively (13p ->21p)! Looking at a £30 a month increase with my usage.
I wonder do they check the meter reads you provide? It would be a terrible mistake if I accidentally entered a day rate a couple hundred units higher than actual so that I pay the YE rate rather than the new rate!

Mine has gone up 52%!!  Standing charge for elec 10.31p to 21.61p, gas 6.86p to 23.33p.
  • Surely we cant be expected to pay two direct debits one for SP and the other for YE.Not everybody including myself can afford it.

Yorkshire Energy went bust because every tariff was priced below cost.... It's not ripping customers off it's giving them a tariff which doesn't end in them going bust within 2 years....

Most suppliers going bust are the cheap ones... coincidence?

Not true - they like to pretend that because the administrators want a route into your bank account IF your YE account was in debt. Any positive balances will end up with SP - you will either receive by cheque if you move very quickly or a credit to your SP account otherwise.
Several pages back, my advice re the speed of return of credits was queried. In my personal experience it isn't a quick process and in the case of the failure of One Select and subsequent SOLR transfer to Together Energy, it was a long drawn out process which even the Ombudsman couldn't/didn't sort.
I gave up in the end ,but only because Together made such a b**ls up of the final bill ,that I ended up in profit!!
