I received my email from SP half an hour ago and duly gave them all the details they require, turning a blind eye to the suggestion that I was a Tonik customer (clumsy of them, to say the least).

I take exception to being switched to a new supplier who has (according to posts here) already disclosed its charging rate but neglected  to tell me what it is in their email. If they know, why not say so?
Time to fire-up the comparison sites once again.

As soon as I have been switched over I will switch out again. For me PFP Energy is only £31 a year more expensive than my Yorkshire Energy tariff. Anyone know if they're on the rocks?
  • I have received the same email from SP.I have also received a email from YE stating-

Please call us to reinstate your direct debit as soon as possible as, without an adequate direct debit in place, your account will build up debt and you may face a penalty for any further failed payments.I cancelled the direct debit this morning.I am not going to pay two direct debits.Anyway i have over £250 in credit so i am definitely not going to reinstate the YE direct debit. This is not going to go very smooth i fear.I shall be switching away from SP as soon as i can.I will make a new direct debit with SP.

For the first time I decided to put some extra money in, I have over £200 in credit, mainly due to retiring I decided to get in front for the winter and intended to top it up, now & again.
received the email from SP and not sure what to do regarding my direct debit with YE.

Reckon I will end up cancelling the direct debit tomorrow.
Suggest you wait until just before your next collection date, see post above mine. Doubt the warning will have any consequences, but it is sometimes best not to show your hand too early.

For those wondering how long they might be trapped at SP... Tonik Energy went into administration on 12th October. The first report of a successful switching application I could find was 9th November and the switch date was 27th November. That's close to 7 weeks without Christmas getting in the way.

Oh dear. The next best is Utility Point. They would be £99 more expensive. British Gas is £100 more and Scottish Power comes in at £103 more. Given how many smaller providers are going bust, it might be wise to pay a little more and go with a big name supplier. I'll see what the Scottish Power tariff we're put onto looks like.

Keeping with a small supplier, my increase is £40 a year.  Green Energy for elec and Zog for gas.  The big companies are all around the £120 mark extra for me.  I will see how the switch to SP goes before I make my final decision on where to move.

Yes, I have had my SP email this evening and have given my banking details.  Not giving them any excuse to charge me any more than is necessary.
  • If I want my credit, am I right in understanding from the email that I have to wait to be transferred to them, wait for the credit to be applied to the account and then switch? Or is there an option in the initial detail process to get it via cheque?
  • Both myself and my parents were Yorkshire Energy customers, albeit on different tariffs. I've just crunched the numbers based on the new SP Energy Exclusive Online unit rates and I'm going to be paying approx £50 a year more but my parents are going to be paying £175 a year more. We botjh need to switch elsewhere ASAP but because I can't do that until Scottish Power have confirmed that the transfer over to them from Yorkshire Energy is complete the best tariffs currently on the market are likely to be long gone by then. Very frustrating. I'm annoyed at myself for not being up to speed that Yorkshire Energy had folded until I got the email from SP this evening.

One question I have and apologies if this has already been answered. My next YE bill had been due to be produced in the next couple of days. Will I still be billed at the YE rates right up until 6th December or will the new Scottish Power rates be applied from when my last YE bill was produced (ie 10th November).
