I had been with SP for years and then got my act together and moved to Iresa and slashed my electricity bill.  I never had a problem with Iresa - I submit my meter readings every month , adjusted my payments to them to match and all was good in the world.  After Iresa were knocked out we were moved to Octpus.  The takeover seemed to be a stretch too far for their admin support and it took ages to settle my account with them.  Significantly more expensive but what did it was that if I wanted to adjust my payments they needed to be "approved".  I was significantly in credit and obviously tracking my usage and some clerk adjusted my request to reduce my monthly payments upwards.  I attempted to engage on this and was met by a very poor service.  So I moved to YE and their tarrif was better than Octopus.  Now I am back with SP and undoubtedly the tarrif will be back up again.  I think I will let it settle and then move soon afterwards.

As a number of people still seem to be pontificating about the tariff  then in case you who may have missed it I posted the Energy Exclusive tariff for ex YE customers (for my BH postcode anyway) and how to find it a few posts further back up this thread.
It is about 20% overall higher than Green Whitby - Elec unit rates up 23%, Gas unit rates up about 8% but its the Standing charge thats the real killer on Gas - up over 100% (or £44 in my case)

Received SP email. Not yet entered details. Quick check shows Symbio to be the cheapest for, even less than YE. However they get poor ratings but could mainly be due to how they estimate on variable rate. On fixed they split year with 2 different fixed DDs.

Just received a welcoming email fromSP and requesting meter and direct debit details.
    Edit-
Bizarrely, the field for DD amount- it said tonic energy.  Although it gave me the YE account number when I entered my details.
Same here....It's probably an omen. They've now managed to email individual customers, pre-populate individual forms with YE account numbers, gleaned bank account details for future payment, and advised of the shiny new name for the tariff we'll be put on. Just can't tell us the rates.

For one crazy moment, I almost considered not switching (if the rates were favourable)

Here we go again... I see some familiar faces, fingers crossed this one goes better than others I could mention.
Looks like the new tariff would increase my annual costs by 28% !!!
As brewerdave says, prematurely started switches will fail while the supply is being moved to Scottish Power. You will be able to start your switch as soon as they are your registered supplier (see your local power distributor's website - it will usually allow you to check your current supplier).

... Just can't tell us the rates.

At the risk of repeating myself look at my posts on page 21 and it will tell you how to find the tariffs applicable to your postcode

Ideal, means you can just change to a different SP tariff. Wish I could say the same.

Thanks. I missed your earlier posts. It's just surprising that, these have to be searched for rather than proactively issued by the SoLR on first contact.

  • Had the email filled in my details all except the DD details, will maybe have to pay a little extra but don't want SP to have my bank details
Look forward to my credit cheque ; - )
