  • So where do we stand with the Overcharging refunds announced today by OFGEM, in respect of 18 suppliers? I don’t know who the 18 are, but I do know that one of them is, of course, Scottish Power. Unlikely that YE was one, but how do we get an SP refund if we have left/in the process of leaving, for the period we were/are with them? Anyone know if the overcharging related to a period in the past, or is still ongoing?
The list is detailed on https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/18-energy-suppliers-pay-104-million-contract-renewal-failures and YE is not listed

I wish I could say I was surprised at hearing switchers were being overcharged for the last 7 years.

Yep, I was one such person :D Whether it'll appear in the bank account within 14 days remains to be seen :)
  • I’ve been a customer of at least 4 of those. I suspect it will be impossible or not viable to trace and refund every customer affected, so the general Redress Fund looks set for a windfall. Very surprised to see that SP is only beaten by Ovo in the list of overcharged amounts...
  • I've since received the list (Thanks DerwentMailman anyway) from OFGEM and the following statement

'The refunds relate to 18 suppliers who were not compliant between 2013-2020. Suppliers are automatically issuing refunds and compensation, as well as reaching out to affected customers to process refunds. Where it has not been possible to process refunds, the suppliers have agreed to make payments to the energy redress fund. Customers who have since switched and believe they are still owed a refund should contact the supplier they switched from.'

    Good luck with that.

I don't see how it is relevant to the Yorkshire Energy/Scottish Power SoLR?  Even if YE were on the list, chances of getting a payout from an insolvent company would be nil.

The overcharge issue when switching won't apply to those switching out of SP Energy Exclusive tariff.

The dedicated YE 2nd class helpline closes before then, and you can't get access to the normal helpline with longer opening hours if you are an ex-YE customer. I predict they won't be able to answer your question to your satisfaction anyway.
You can make a formal complaint at any time.

Well coincidence or not got a reply tonight from the email I sent saying
"I understand your concern about refund of the credit balance from Yorkshire Energy.

I have checked with the relevant team and I would like to confirm the credit will be applied on the Scottish Power account within this week."

    Fingers crossed
