If you switch away from a supplier, with a balance owing, and with a DD mandate  still open, is that supplier entitled to use that mandate to pay the full balance of the debt in one go? Notwithstanding the fact that it may be a considerable amount, and more than a normal monthly instalment, partly due to them taking so long to set things up. If so, do they have to inform the customer of when they are going to take it, to allow the funds to be transferred to cover it? There is no normal date pattern, as they have only taken one payment, the first and opening one.
They took one one and only DD payment on 22nd Feb covering the period I was with Scottish Power the my account now states 'The account is now closed'.  They informed me of their intention via a paper copy (sent via snail) and the electronically via pdf copies lurking in your account via the 'Your Inbox' section on the account .

Did Yorkshire tariff increase on nov 28th? Got final bill and rates higher than expected
    The variable one did, yes.
Do you happen to know where I can find details of the post-28 November YE tariff?

I'm intending to recoup the additional cost of the SP SoLR tariff compared to the 'final' YE tariff for my energy use between 6 December and 19 January (when SP *finally* deigned to email me with details of their tariff), but wasn't aware YE had bumped their prices shortly before they went under.

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere else in the 200-odd pages of this thread.

Yes they are, but I believe they have to tell you if they are taking a different amount to the usual mandate.

In practice, my Final Bill from SP had debit balance, with a note saying they would collect that amount and the date they would do so.  I think my Final Bill notification email also stated the same.  Obviously you could cancel the DD if you didn't wish them to collect it, but it would need paying one way or another.

It is covered earlier in the thread, but it is easier to repost than find it (prices are for the East region, so you'll have to guestimate how your region would have varied): https://www.safeenergyswitch.co.uk/yorkshire-energy-variable-tariff.php
Your final YE bill should include the actual tariff rates applying to your supply. It was quite a hike, so you may find there is little difference in cost, you might even find the SP tariff is cheaper.
  • My credit balance from YE showed up on my SP online account about 10 days later - I started the transfer to octopus the same day. To be fair, the comparison sites weren't showing that much difference to the SP price, but Octopus were in the top three and I have friends with them who tell me their customer service is excellent. So I'm on the later side to transfer away from SP, but I decided to wait until the YE account was all finalised and the money showing in the SP account, as I can't afford for nearly £200 to disappear down the cracks in the pavement!

Received this today, general letter, several weeks late by the sound of it.

We wanted to get in touch to let you know that we are now starting to receive the final bill and credit information from Yorkshire Energy's administrators. This means we can now start to process any credit balances due. If there is a credit due to you, we'll confirm in writing the value and apply the credit to your ScottishPower account or issue it to you by cheque.

The administrators are working hard to complete the final billing process and we're aware that for some customers it is taking longer than expected. Please be assured that we are working closely with the administrators and as soon as they provide us with your final bill information, we will process any outstanding credit balance you may have.

    Thank you for your patience

  • I've now received a generic email from SP but at least it acknowledges that I still exist as being a former YE-customer.
Q1)  Have others received this email ?
Q2) Was the credit then applied shortly thereafter if you did receive said email?
Q3)  Did anyone get their credit without getting this email?

Yes I just got that too.
But I had my final YE bill well over a week ago, more like two. AND my final credit was put on my SP account a week ago too. Still, at least it's all beginning to be sorted out properly now.

I've just received the email today too. My YE bill was generated on Tuesday and I paid my final DD yesterday.
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Same email received by myself today. Never been given an SP account number perhaps because I switched immediately to neon . I do owe YE and probably  SP  up to 3/1/21 when my neon switch was complete.
