Yorkshire energy ?

Now that my SP a/c set up, first DD taken & first bill produced I have already initiated my switch away. Luckily my YE final bill credit is only £12.59. (I said they were the only energy supply company that could assess my usage accurately!).0

Ofgem advises customers to wait until they've transferred over to Scottish Power and received a credit refund if they're owed one before switching away to a cheaper tariff elsewhere. It warns if you switch away earlier it may be more complicated to get your credit back - we've asked for more info on what the process for this is and what you should do if you have switched earlier, and will update this story when we know more.

OFGEM are incompetent and make it up as it goes along, I was told that I could switch away without causing any credit refund problems, indeed SP said the refund would be paid by cheque0 -
SP sent me a letter (I switched away last week) final bill. Massive for me and as previously pointed out on here it is my usage and that’s fine, just used to keeping the costs down with regular payments. What’s bothering me is the solr process has left me to acrue this as apparently they bill you quarterly cos that’s the industry standard. I always opt monthly direct debit when I actually choose my supplier and figuratively with the ye credit and what I have in my account that hasn’t been debited by dd I owe em about £50. I rang them today genuinely for the first time and the response was it’s your own fault for not giving us monthly meter readings. I argued in the absence of those most sensible organisations estimated and billed that each month instead. Response was quarterly bills are the industry’s standard and I should have given readings. They sent me my account number for the first time 9 days ago and I duly gave readings the same day, I fail to see what more I could have done tbh.
The biggest cause of me posting is they told me my YE credit can’t be used to settle my account and I need to pay up. I pointed out they could effectively take a year to give me my credit refund so why should I settle nice and early (next week and I don’t have it) the response was because my ‘debt’ and my ye credit are two separate things. Maybe they are to them, but same end result in my opinion? It either clears some of my balance or they pay me back later. The news was delivered with the subtlety of a brick...must get thousands of calls a day etc but couldn’t have hoped for a less helpful person tbh.Saving for Christmas 2023 #51🎄

In my ramblings what I am trying to say is...this is likely the kind of complication the mse article is referring to. If you switch away before the credit is yours then you are going to have to find another way to pay.Saving for Christmas 2023 #51🎄

It seems they are not capable of receiving the readings sent by the new supplier. Fortunately this is a task that can be done quite efficiently via live chat.
If Avro stick with the values they get, which I believe they are contractually obliged to & SP say "well you told us the meter reading, no getting out of it now" then I could get double charged.

Not happy that I'll eventually get a cheque to put in my bank (20 mile round trip) and yet they'll want an extra £300+ for me to find when I leave.
Also, there is a banner message on my online account saying 'sorry you're leaving, ring this number for details about our exclusive tariff' I rang it, this is the cheapest tariff.

The Avro tariff saves me £27 at least and is fixed for 1 year.
As I've mentioned above, check that SP have the correct initial readings, my gas reading wasn't correct. I have proof of the correct value because I have a YE generated bill and a photo of the meter both taken on 5/12/20.
It's best to have photos to refer back to. Will certainly take some when I switch away to Avro next month.
Good luck.0 -
