  • I switched from SP as soon as I could to Octopus Energy which completed yesterday.  No final bill from YE who owe me £194.  I used the online chat service yesterday to have SP confirm in writing that I will not have anymore direct debits taken from account.  I did this because I've paid one direct debit to them already and in the space of the next 3 weeks there would be 2 going out to Octopus and another 1 to SP. That's a lot of money to come up with.  They confirmed no more would be taken and that they have cancelled the direct debit - they also confirmed that no extra charges will added to my bill.  I didn't want to cancel my DD I wanted them to do it.  I wilI end up owing them money so I'm not bothered. I still don't get how SP have got away with charging YE customers the so called comparable rate which is horrendously more expensive and also not being given the choice who I transferred over to.  OFGEM need to get their act together here and listen.  I see customers from Tonik Energy are now being transferred over to SP - any of those reading this good luck
  • What's the point of moving at the moment as there are no decent deals to be had. We are already on a cheap deal with Energy Exclusive. Wow I could save a pound a week if I moved and incidentally would have to have a smart meter installed. I gave my readings to SP yesterday and they produced a bill immediately which was accurate. I have no complaints about SP.When I see a good deal of course i shall move in the future. Pointless at the moment. I think to many negative comments about S.P. have whipped up a storm against common sense. I shall be staying with SP at the moment.
  • Fortunately SP do correct their billed meter data errors when informed about them, I found. Not so good was my switch out to Avro, applied for after I had checked that SP showed as my supplier on both National databases. Nothing happened on the switch out date 27th January. SP helpline mumbled something about "smaller energy companies going bust" which was true, but not applying to Avro. Then, having failed to take my January Direct Debit already set up, they suggested I pay the deficit and re-apply to Avro for the switch away! Stalling tactics, from my point of view. Happily switch out to Avro finally happened on 12th February. And still I wait for the £400 credit from YE via SP!

I logged into my SP account apparently I have a bill from the 8th Feb but cannot see it at all.
    What a joke.
I am relenting going to phone them today review the meter readings from December to when the account was switched to Avro on the 25th. I don't want to but SP clearly are absolutely rubbish when it comes to billing and the account is useless in actually telling me information.
It took ten working days before I could see my bill after it was produced.

When I compared electricity on its own I saved more than £200 a year so that was worth switching for me! SP say my switch will be completed in 2015 😂 I agree there were no deals when comparing dual fuel, and I can't save on gas so I'll stay with SP for a bit unless they really upset me.

I think you've been lucky, compared to most on here.
The reason I've moved is not to save money, but to escape Scottish Power's awful customer service; indeed the contract with my new supplier works out around £20 a year more, but it is fixed for 12 months, so may well work out cheaper in the end. However, the primary reason for my move is to go to a company that scores high on customer service.

Received email from SP saying final bill ready after leaving on 21 Jan. Checked details and meter readings are correct and tariff as expected. I was only with YE for electricity.  So for me no problems, just waiting for small credit from YE. I waited until the database showed a change from YE to SP before switching to Neon Reef. I think this is the third SOLR situation that I have been through in the last few years and expect it wont be the last. I followed the guidance in this thread before deciding when to switch from SP.
Has it not put you off moving to another smaller supplier?  I've chosen Octopus as they seem likely to last the course
Would not put me off, gained far more in cheap deals than the inconvenience of SoLR
I always choose a no exit fee provider when energy costs are high allowing me to move when cheaper deals come along
  • Just received my first SP gas bill. Still waiting for Elec but SP assure me that's in hand. I was with SP in 2019 prior to YE, and planning to stay until/if there's a good reason to change. SP service was fine in 2019 (though grim a few years previously when I was last with them) so prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. I have compared my gas cost per KwH from bills for the last 3 years, including daily service charge but excluding VAT. Results (rounded) below:
    SP 2019 3.5p
    YE 2020 2.9
    SP 2021 3.1
This makes for me (in the SW) a <6% price rise, which is roughly what I had calculated from the "unconventional" welcome pack figures.
Will repeat the comparison when I get an actual Elec bill.

I take it you've all seen this, sorry if it's already been posted but I hadn't

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2021/02/former-yorkshire-energy-customers-furious-over-scottish-power-ta/

Ofgem advises customers to wait until they've transferred over to Scottish Power and received a credit refund if they're owed one before switching away to a cheaper tariff elsewhere. It warns if you switch away earlier it may be more complicated to get your credit back - we've asked for more info on what the process for this is and what you should do if you have switched earlier, and will update this story when we know more.

    Bit bloomin late OFGEM!
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
