  • Yep, I've done everything they've asked me to, and more. I've found my account number, and gained access to my account on the net, and the app (which is also crap). I even tried to submit some meter readings, until I discovered they'd only set me up for gas, instead of both gas and elec. Then I got told off for jumping the gun - after 8 weeks!

I've complained to OFGEM three times but they don't want to know. The problem is that I can't switch away from SP until they get their finger out and set me up in the first place, so I can move.

It seems that there is some movement on closing and opening accounts, but I've not had any emails like others seem to have.

Don't worry if your SP account isn't showing both, as long as you've got a note of meter readings for opening (and closing when you get that far) they can be added at anytime. The only important thing for a switch is showing SP as the supplier. Check your regional database for your electricity. How helpful the customer service agents are just depends on who you get, there is one or two who are atrocious! If SP are not showing as your supplier, make a formal complaint, as you say, they've had 8 weeks.

I had to ring them up as they’d not transferred the electricity / done the reads. Was sorted after about a week and I’ve put in the application to go to Octopus. To be honest, prices seem to have gone up so much that the SP tariff is fairly competitive now, but I’d no intention of staying with them and Octopus is about £50 cheaper over the year.

OK so found out what happened with my account. I used a different email address on the form sent on the 7th of december (you know the one that asked for bank info, initial readings, etc) to the email address I used to open my scottish power account early (from the direct debit ref).

It looks like on monday evening they finally got around to creating ex-ye customer Scottish power accounts and reset my password in the process and sent the new password on the email used on the form (rather than the email used for the early account setup) meaning the email address and password I had been using for my scottish power account no longer worked. I called them and they didn't help (I worked this out after getting off the phone with them).

Anyway the bit of information I did manage to obtain was that it seems that any credit balances (after your final YE bill) will not be applied to your Scottish power account and will be sent to you via cheque within the next two weeks. As such I have paid off my final Scottish power balance (my switch to green completed on the 25th Jan) with a reward credit card, and just need to await a cheque for my left over YE credit via the post. So it seems the end is in sight...

Same here. Sorted now but they still haven't got my gas. They've been listed as my supplier but seem to have lost my initial reading. I assume as they are my supplier on the database I can switch away even if they don't get sorted.
  • If I've ready correctly and understood your query, I believe it's likely they'll need your account set up on their system as well as just being your supplier as a lot of transfers don't go through without it.

Yes. As soon as the Gas and Electricity "Who's my supplier?" databases show SP then you are free to switch away.

The account set up and online access etc is just SP admin you don't need to wait for that.

As long as you have your initial meter readings from 6/7th December, and then keep your opening readings with your new supplier, then that is enough for SP to generate you a bill when they finally get round to it.

No need to waste your time time chasing SP to get your readings right or account looking nice online at this point.

Curious that Scottish Power will be sending cheques to us all even though this at odds with what they have stated.
    SP said (main website):
If you are owed money because your Yorkshire Energy account was in credit, please don’t worry. Once we receive your meter readings, we’ll work closely with Yorkshire Energy to ensure your account with them is closed down properly and any remaining credit balance is added to your new ScottishPower account or issued to you by cheque.

I will be happy to bank it if this proves to be correct but I'm not going to bet on it.  If this information was given to you by a CS agent I'd be wary of it being 100% accurate.  I'm certainly not going to be chasing them up in a fortnight if it does not arrive through my letterbox in the next 2 weeks.......... :p    Having just switched today (to Avro) I am not actually expecting Scottish to give me my final (and only) bill with them until March if they stick with the 6 week timeframe for generating final bills and I would expect my Scottish Power account will be functional until such time as this final statement and bill is produced by them.  TBH, I would'nt mind them applying my £50 credit due or so to my account to offset some of this final bill.  The last time I had to pay in a cheque was in April this year - this was from British Gas (who I had left in Feb/Mar of this year) the SOLR for Breeze :p
  • Not been on these boards for years, but having such problems with the forced transfer from YE to SP that I thought I'd check here. I see that I'm not alone. I could really do without this, and I am not impressed with their suggested tariff at all. I'm dreading my first bill - if SP ever get around to issuing one. Their customer service is effectively non-existent, and their server must be an early wind-up model.
Check on the national databases if your supplies are registered to SP, if so you can start a switch.
So what are the national databases that you refer to, and how are they accessed?

    For gas https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html

For electricity you will need to go find your Network Distribution company for your region (eg SSEN for the south) from this link
    https://www.energynetworks.org/operating-the-networks/whos-my-network-operator
and look on their website where there should be a link to a Who is my Supplier page
