There's plenty of information out there on the relevant websites for those affected:

    - YE domestic customers will be moved to a new tariff "Energy Exclusive Tariff".  Ofgem describe this as a "competitive tariff".  Scottish Power describe it as "some of our most competitive prices"

    - Customers who have credit on their YE energy account will have the credit moved over to their Scottish Power Account

    - Ofgem's advice is not to start a switch now

    - Customers who have already switched away from YE or have a switch in progress will have their credit balance refunded by SP in due course, by cheque.

More FAQs on the dedicated Scottish Power site: Yorkshire Energy | Gas and Electricity Company | ScottishPower

It's obvious the new tariff won't be at the same rates as YE.  Whilst we all will have enjoyed YE's cheap energy prices, keep in mind they've gone bust! The cheap prices we enjoyed were not sustainable.  It's also easy to be frustrated with SP, or for Ofgem for appointing them, but the SoLR process is a competitive tender, so it requires two things:

    1) Company's willing to take on YE's customer base
    2) Ofgem brokering the best deal for the transferring customers and the industry

Whether we like it or not SP were successful, they offered the best deal.  For all we know they may have been the only provider who could be bothered.   I view it that i might have to pay more for my energy for a month or two before switching again.  It's just a risk of using the bargain basement providers like YE, who's prices were ultimately too cheap.
Thank you for having collated that information. It would have been nice (even mildly reassuring) had either SP or OFGEM  taken the trouble to email YE customers.

As for its low prices being the cause of YE's demise, it's not possible to be certain of that yet.- we would need to see the company's accounts after liquidation. In such a rigged and distorted market we may never get to the bottom of what's really been going on.

My Cheap Energy Club comparison does not show Scottish Power in the top ten picks, so the "Energy Exclusive tariff" created specifically for former customers of Yorkshire Energy is not going to be at all "competitive".
I am also not keen on Scottish Power because it aims to install smart meters in all customers' homes:
"There is no legal obligation to have a smart meter installed. However Scottish Power are supportive of the Government mandated programme and are aiming to install smart meters in all customers' homes to help customers get the benefits of a smart meter."

There's vague information on there but little of real information
OFCOM have done several of these SLoR's and IMO they should have much better information Time frame, tariff rates.
Surely if SP have already said we will be on an exclusive deal they know the costings

That'll speed up my transfer from SP because there's no way I'll agree to installation of a smart meter

Likewise. As that quote from SP contains a blatant lie (the 'benefits' of a smart meter accrue only to suppliers) I will be out of SP's clutches as fast as possible, even if they manage to get somewhere close to YE's prices. The comparisons I ran last night all showed EDF to be my cheapest option but I won't give them my business either - also for reasons of SM policy and atrocious customer service.

OFGEM hold all the cards;...to the best of my knowledge they can appoint any suitable volunteer SoLR if they wish;...however, if there are no companies that volunteer, or the ones who do volunteer are  deemed unsuitable then OFGEM have the power to force ANY company of their choice to be  a SoLR.

I don’t think an energy company has ever been forced to become a SoLR, but it could happen I guess.

Just found this after trying to login.  I guess on the plus side I'll not have to pay a switching fee, but when I last ran the Cheap Energy club, there was nothing on offer cheaper than my current 2 year fix (itself about a £30 a month uplift on what I was paying 2016-2019).

I also have no interest in a smart meter - I read my meters manually once a month when I got the reminder email nudge from YE.  I'm not in the Covid/5G/tin foil hat camp, but surely smart meters are the first step towards surge pricing?
  • So OFGEM have all these powers, yet they can't insist on accounts being switched over in a timely manor nor insist the price of the tariff being switched to the price per unit being given when the company (in this case SP) accept to become  SLoR
All seems very customer unfriendly to me
