I have a slight, notice I said slight, sympathy for SP...
Do we know if SP competed with other suppliers for YE customers, or if OFGEM made a unilateral decision?

These were the weasel words that OFGEM gave me in reply to my initial complaint about OFGEM procedures -
"Scottish Power was appointed following a competitive process to get the best deal possible for customers. Scottish Power is offering customers a competitive tariff. "

I've just since received (the expected) bull reply from OFGEM about their procedures, where they haven't even acknowledged that there could be a deficiency in such procedures, which I shall now pursue further. However from what they did tell me, it's obvious that YE/their Administrators efficiently provided SP with the relevant customer information for SP to have sent out emails on the 7th December.

  • All done switched away from SP now just the final bill and refund credit to come
Able to enter my gas readings at my new supplier
Thanks for everyone's help on here

Scottish Power finally, as of this morning, showing switch (both) complete. Avro not showing my electric readings, which I didn't have an issue registering, as I did with gas. The gas readings have however stuck, but I did email them with the readings, so hopefully they will resolve...and breathe!
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Well my switch is due tomorrow but Avro are still waiting for the gas meter details from the industry soIcan't give them a reading and on SP it says now sorry to see your elec go
Any advice please hope this is not the start of problems
My switch date was today, Avro now have my details but scottish power still seem to think they have my gas according to online. I did a check on uk power network and my electricity has been updated, but find my supplier says scottish power for gas. I'm sure they are going to hold onto it as long as possible.
  • Email from SP today tells me that the administrators are still working out my YE bill. BUT they are now saying that if I had a credit with YE (I did - £153) this credit would be applied to my SP bill.  Previously they have always stated that this would be returned to me.  Not quite the same thing.
  • My question. If SP can put opening readings on my account last week, they could only have come from YE records, why can't the YE administrators produce a final bill a week later? Clearly the YE administrators aren't overly fussed at finalizing matters, perhaps they're prioritising their fees over customer confusion

Gas always seem slow to update their Db
Mine electric is showing Avro Gas still says SP but I have had confirmation from both SP and Avro that it is Avro supplying both Gas and Elec
All the bad press SP have had on here and most is justified but I will say my switch went as smooth as can be expected and the SP rep I spoke to yesterday was very efficient and answered all my concerns very professionally

The more recent emails I have had from Scottish have been quite clear
(Your ScottishPower Tariff Information email I received 22nd Jan) stated
'If you're owed money because your Yorkshire Energy account was in credit, please don't worry. We'll work closely with Yorkshire Energy to ensure any remaining credit balance is added to your new ScottishPower account or issued to you by cheque. If we add any credit to your account, we'll be sure to let you know'

And the most recent email (An important update from ScottishPower) I received yesterday. stated

If there is a credit due to you, as soon as we receive the information from Yorkshire Energy, we'll write to you confirming the value. We'll ensure the credit is applied to your ScottishPower account or sent to you by cheque (if you have since left us),

Even the original FAQ has been clear

I have a credit balance on my Yorkshire Energy account, will I get this money back?

If you are owed money because your Yorkshire Energy account was in credit, please don’t worry. Once we receive your meter readings, we’ll work closely with Yorkshire Energy to ensure your account with them is closed down properly and any remaining credit balance is added to your new ScottishPower account or issued to you by cheque.

My interpretation of all of this is that, if there is an active Scottish Power account you will get the credit applied to your account but if you have left (and account no longer active and DD stopped) you will get a cheque.

So in my eyes SP have always been consistent although painfully slow.  Whether any refunds are applied to our account before SP raises the final bill for those that are in the priocess of switching remains to be seen.

That would be the ideal outcome for me there is more than enough credit in my YE account to pay for the 2 months of SP's tariff
But I have left my DD setup for SP so they can do it which ever way they like as long as I get my YE credit back
If SP do it by applying the credit on my final bill from them I will give them another star

must admit I'll be pushing SP NOT to take any payment UNTIL my YE credit is showing on the SP account - mine (after final YE bill) will be £238, so unlikely to owe SP anything, if I do it'll be minimal despite it being the coldest couple of months of the year...
