Just for info, according to a Which! report that I saw published today, Octopus and Pure Planet are their top recommended suppliers (2nd and 4th in rankings) and , interestingly,Outfox the Market coming in at number 1 in customer rankings . Avro was 3rd

At at the bottom Npower and.......

    surprise surprise SP.

(although to be honest I don't have a huge lot of faith in Which! reviews and rankings of most things....)

At the time many of us would have been looking for a new supplier after YE folded, the Which? recommended energy company report was still showing results from a 2019 survey and at least two companies listed in their league table  have since gone bust (so much for up-to date reporting).

On the strength of those listings, I initiated an electricity switch to Bulb (3rd place) and although due to switch on the 29th Jan, still can't log in to my account or enter current meter readings as they've requested. For hardly any difference in price, I might have been better off choosing Octopus, from other forumnites' experiences.

Having just looked at Which? they seem to have recently updated their report and Bulb is now in 10th place..

Have to say though, that SP haven't created any problems so far.

Well my switch is due tomorrow but Avro are still waiting for the gas meter details from the industry soIcan't give them a reading and on SP it says now sorry to see your elec go
Any advice please hope this is not the start of problems
When you got your welcome pack from Avro,  did it list your MPAN and MPRN numbers (it was listed for me).  Also the Gas Serial number was listed in this welcome pack.  The only thing not listed in my welcome pack was the electricity serial number.  Not sure what to advise other than to check the welcome pack carefully.
Yes all meter details are there including Gas
    Gas Supply Number (MPRN): 2245656301
    Gas Serial Number: 0000156
    Gas Supply Address:
In that case, I'm just not sure what Avro can be referring to?  What other meter details can there possibly be?  Do these details (esp the gas meter serial number) match up with what you see on your gas meter?  The MPRN looks similar to mine (10 digit number)
Just come of the phone call to SP the rep confirmed the switch will happen tomorrow and confirmed it's going to Avro, she went away and checked the database she was gone 15 mins! and came back and confirmed everything was fine
I also asked about m YE credit balance she said I would get a final bill from YE this week and the credit balance would be confirmed in a couple days by SP and the final bill would use some of the credit to settle the SP balance and any left would be sent to me
Must say she seemed  on the ball and knowledgeable so I had no reason to doubt her but we will see
But I am escaping SP tonight at midnight!!

I had a scheduled electricity switch date of this Wednesday (27th) from Neon Reef.  This was listed as 26th on SP account.  But I got an email from Neon Reef at 00:47 today (25th) to tell me the switch had happened.  Still showing as switching on the SP site and still showing as SP on the national database.  Does anyone know how long it takes for the national database to update after an electricity switch?  Need to cancel my SP DD soon!

Well, my saga goes on! I was told to ring a SP no. dedicated to sorting out ETs but not to do it until 25/1/21, when my switch back date would be finalised. Have just rung them to be told that nothing is showing, so can't do anything still and can't tell me when it will be done!  Also now blaming my new provider Avro for getting the switching date wrong. Yet another example of someone else's fault - SP don't do the "taking responsibility" thing!  What a mess!  I have had a reply from the CEO of SP, Keith Anderson, apologising and saying that his Director Support Team is now looking into my case and will get back to me within 10 working days, so now their ordinary customer services say that they can't help me anymore as their "higher-ups" are now dealing with it. I have now been able to get into my SP a/c page this morning with very little info on it. The meter reading section has my correct meter nos. on it, and has a reading date of November 30 1902 - as I think others have had too!  SP just isn't up to this job. I have found that this is the 3rd time that Ofgem has awarded them the contract as SOLR - Extra Energy in November 2018 (108,000 customers), Tonik Energy in October 2020 (130,000 customers) and YE in December 2020 (74,000 customers) - just read the customer reviews from all 3 companies'  ex-customers about SP dragging their feet on transfers, refunds for a/cs in credit, etc, etc., with no let up for months and months.  Literally thousands upon thousands of unhappy customers - anyone recognise a pattern here?   All 3 SOLR awards to SP have the same modus operandi, and Ofgem are just sitting back and watching us all go through hell. Still can't understand why Martin Lewis hasn't stepped in to do something about this - if you or any of your staff read any of this please, please will you help us?

My electricity has successfully switched to from SP to Symbio today. A heads up for anyone else joining Symbio - I applied for their Christmas Spark SE02 variable tariff originally on 06/01/21. About a week ago they brought out a new variable tariff called SE01 V16 which works out around £5 cheaper a month for me - I called them up and got straight through to a helpful operator who switched me onto the cheaper one starting 01/02/21. FYI I live in an electric only flat with an economy 7 meter.

I was getting the same message, but it let me enter the reading today, have you tried again?

@mel54 don't get your hopes up that the higher up complaints team know what they are doing.

Every time they email me, I'm adding another complaint on to mine as they are not doing what they say they will.  SP are my deemed supplier and it's taken over 8 months to get an account set up and they've still not rectified other issues!
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

My switch went through on 22nd ..electric transferred on national database next day (gas took till Sunday ) but I guess  that's down to how proactive the new supplier is?

It all depends on how efficient the new supplier is as well as the efficiency of the regional database in updating records.
I would not delete your SP DD account as they need to compile a final bill and you might end up being billed at the higher non-DD rates if you don't have a DD in place.

There are three key problems here. The way things work at present are that OFGEM asks energy providers to submit an offer/proposals for the takeover from a supplier that's gone bust. OFGEM has to appoint one, and the tariffs used will be an agreement between OFGEM and the supplier. The supplier has to have a "workable" tariff otherwise it's not worth them bothering - the tariff from the "bust" supplier was likely to have been unsustainable. If no supplier "volunteered", OFGEM has to "appoint" one and the tariff on "offer" is likely to be even more expensive.
The second key problem is how quickly the national databases are updated to show the SoLR as your supplier, that's obviously dependent on the SoLR, the national databases and to a degree OFGEM.
The third key problem is that until meter readings from the date the SoLR started are passed back to the "bust" supplier (obviously dependent mainly on SoLR's efficiency as well as customers submitting readings when requested) the Administrators can't do anything to generate final bills - that last bit is not under the control of SP or OFGEM!
I have a slight, notice I said slight, sympathy for SP as their procedures are somewhat lacking, they've had to cope with 130K+108K+74K SoLR customers in a short space of time with a number of factors they can't control but MANY of those are down to the way OFGEM's general and SoLR rules are set up, and at the end of the day, OFGEM's rules are Not Fit for Purpose. I submitted a formal complaint about their rules in the latter part of December and they've told me I will get a decision soon.
