  • Scottish Power have finally given me my Energy Exclusive tariff details. For the Norweb area they are gas 2.987 per kwh/20.444 per day and elec 15.354 per kwh/19.866 per day.
The Energy Exclusive tariff is not showing in the Cheap Energy club comparator, so as a workaround I selected Super saver Jan 2022 B3. For me with annual gas of 11300kwh and elec 4000kwh, the cost is within £7 per year.
The bad news is that there doesn't seem to be much to be saved by switching. Utility Point and Simplicity could save me up to £81 per year, but their service is unrated. Next Is EON, saving a paltry £38 per year. It still might be worth moving to get on a fixed tariff for a year.
I accept that these prices are a lot more that YE, but they are now history.
I also remember being with GB Energy when they went bump and the Coop took them over. In those rosy days, the Coop honoured the GB Energy tariff for the rest of the term - and the switch was very quick!

I had a welcome pack email yesterday, I didn't provide my DD details when I followed the link on the 7th of Dec. I did chase SP many times asking to set it up before the account goes live.
Was told in that "welcome" email that the DD wasn't set up and I'll pay extra if I don't set it up. Ok, I knew that. My tariff is Energy Exclusive, only more expensive compared with other people on this forum.
So I dialled whatever number they provided in an email to set up a DD. The customer service lady refused to set it up for us, saying there's absolutely no point because we are switching to Octopus, so they won't ever charge us via DD - they will just send a final bill. I asked her to set it up anyway, just in case it actually matters and because that's what we were told in an email. She refused again, repeating all the same stuff. The thing is, she didn't sound like she actually knew it would or would not affect our final bill, and I know enough not to trust everything people from customer services say. So I tried to convince her that I really wanted my DD set up, she still couldn't understand why...and it went on and on and in the end I just gave up. No DD was set up.
So I've messaged SP on Facebook yet again, to see if it works that way. Had a reply, saying there is actually no need for a Direct Debit if we are not staying. Here is why: "The account is originally set up as a quarterly cash account, we wouldn't be able to backdate the direct debit so even if 1 was set up today you would still be billed on the quarterly cash rates back to the start of the account. There isn't much difference between the 2, though in order to set up a direct debit the tariff would need changed and it is likely that the tariffs we have available right now are more expensive than what you are already on."

That is absolutely BS you should have been put on the exclusive tariff set up for old YE customers  the
deemed tariff as is called unless you requested to be moved to another tariff deemed tariff they are not allowed to charge exit fees

I've just had a look at the Energy Exclusive online rates using Citizens Advice dropdown menu for different types of payment - something I had not done before as it never occurred to me that I would be affected - and it turns out the rates are significantly higher for 'pay on receipt of bill', and also quarterly direct debit.
I am already well advanced in switching away from them, and the direct debit which was set up has disappeared from my online account. Does this mean that when I receive my bill from them after i have left, they will be using these higher rates for 'pay on receipt of bill'?  If so, I reckon this is bang out of order. I had no objection to a direct debit, I haven't messed them about the way some people seem to be doing and would have been perfectly happy for them to take the first monthly payment they were planning to take on Jan 26th (maybe they still will) and in these circumstances it seems irrelevant that I am leaving them. I shall definitely be taking this up with them if they try to charge me at a higher rate. It remains to be seen if they will.

Try Basic Energy V2 for comparisons - its the one ex Tonik customers were put on and (for my region- Southern) its the same tariff rates as Energy Exclusive ex YE tariff.

I'm switching to Simplicity (hopefully will complete on Friday) - its saving me around £120 over SP prices.  Seems to be going through OK, getting some emails through regarding the switch and they sent one today to say DD has been set up.  Had to call their CS line the other day as was concerned about some weird things showing on SP account (now there's a surprise..) and whether switch was on target, call was answered within 5 mins or so (good at the moment I'd say) and very helpful young lady answered my queries quickly and comprehensively.  So far so good.  Website is a bit basic (same software as Neon Reef by look of it) but seems adequate. Will report back when switch completes.   As an aside interestingly they seem to looking into provision of electric car charging points so I've expressed my interest to see what they are proposing.

The full details of the tariff for DD and non-DD for all regions are contained in the PDF on the Scottish Power YE help page:

    https://web-content.scottishpower.co.uk/files/pdf/solr/Energy-Exclusive-Pricing-Leaflet-Dec20.pdf

Yorkshire Energy | Gas and Electricity Company | ScottishPower

Standing charges are the same, but the unit rates are more.  In the example of @venia it looks like the SEEBOARD region, the electricity is 17.678p/kWh vs 16.613p/kWh and gas 3.241p vs 2.861p.

When Scottish Power asked for everyone’s meter readings and DD details, they did say that not setting a DD may mean you pay more.

If you set up a DD when asked, then you should expect to be billed at the DD rates (and likely will be).  You'd have good grounds for complaint if not.  The DD disappearing from you SP account seems to be an automatic thing when you start a switch,  there's plenty in the same situation.  Mine still shows in my bank.

Finished a rather unnerving phone call to SP.  Specifcally I asked for confirmation of the meter reads supplied to them on 9th December.  Seemingly no trace of them or rather no trace of them on the systems that the CS agents are able to access.  Whether these readings (both opening and reads from 3 days ago) I submitted to them over the phone again will find their way onto my account who knows?  He saw that my electricity meter details were missing and apologised.  As pointed out, until these reads are showing on my account they will not be able to bill me for the time I am with them.  I won't be bothering them again until February at the earliest after my switch from AVRO has gone through.  If I expect nothing to change between now and then I'll not be dissappointed.  Website working again but no changes that I can see.
Progress it seems after just checking the account again.  Well the gas reads ones were updated to my account today (presumably as a result of this phone call) with the readings originally supplied to Scottish Power by me on the 9th December (in response to the initial email) and confirmed in today's phone call.  This gas meter read date is showing as the 6th December 2020 (the day that SP became our SOLR).  Now awaiting the other 50% - the electricity meter and its associated opening read again given over the phone!

So my Avro switch happened today (supposedly).  Checked the databases and the Electric does show as Avro, but Gas is still showing as SP.  I assume there may be a slight delay in the gas database showing it?  I will check it again tomorrow.
