Think Boris is about to announce another nationwide lockdown which could last some time. Hope Royal Mail are ready this time. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

Ready to provide the service they are supposed to. They have just put their prices up for the third time in a year.custardy said:

You never know, with lockdown and likely school closures, maybe fewer staff will need to go off sick so they will be able to improve the service ... well, no harm in being optimistic!charlies_mum said:

(You'd think things like wearing masks in the sorting and delivery offices would be a basic precaution, but it seems not?) 0 -
Our sorting office requires you to wear a mask when entering, but the Royal Mail staff behind the counter don’t wear one. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

Its not required for staff behind the screenscharlies_mum said:Our sorting office requires you to wear a mask when entering, but the Royal Mail staff behind the counter don’t wear one.
I'll be honest. For staff in many roles having worked through lockdown (my own experience and speaking to RM guys) You/they get relaxed about the whole situations.
DO's in particular are cramped spaces and social distancing simply doesn't exist.
you really think its staff sickness levels driving the current RM performance?0 -
No, but it's surely a factor. It seemed to be a significant factor during the first wave - and not just staff themselves being ill, but having to self-isolate due to someone in the household having Covid (or suspected - but increased testing reduces that if they test negative and no longer need to self-isolate). It's still a factor for the NHS and it's significantly affected schools recently; entire year groups have been sent home because they haven't had enough staff due to illness, and I know of several schools just in the local area who effectively closed a week before the holidays because they had so many staff off.custardy said:Spoonie_Turtle said:

So in short: no, but it doesn't help

It seemed a factor because RM beat that drum. I can only talk of Central Scotland but I am still in contact with RM in a work & social context.Spoonie_Turtle said:

There hasn't been some massive wave of sickness from COVID. Of course there has been some and social distancing does impact productivity to a degree.
Decisions were made from the outset to cut back on cover/staffing. I know staff who would be doing 40+ hours overtime a week at Xmas who did zero overtime all December due to none being offered/available.

I’ve just had another INR opened for early December, at this rate I will be refunding more then I am earning this week. That period around the 6-9th December seems to have been disastrous for my outgoing post.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
