  • 5 a day?!?! Wow!

You can look online for priority postboxes, but I don't think they tell you collection times.

Out of interest, does anyone know how often mail is collected from sub post offices and mailboxes these days (Christmas/otherwise)?

I remember in the old days, mail boxes around here used to have 5 collections on a weekday and two on Saturday (those times were listed on the boxes) with more frequent collections in the run up to Xmas..

As, I'm asking... Is it possible to find out which "priority mailboxes" currently have a Sunday collection and what time that is scheduled for?

My 2 local post boxes have only 1 collection a day posted on their timetable, one shows 7am and one at 9am. The one in my local WH Smith shows a 5pm collection only, and by the mail centre it is 6pm. They all do only show one collection time though and none show a Sunday emptying.

Yes, the mail boxes now only show the time of the last collection now (

In the old days (only around 10/15 years ago!) they showed the individual collection times and the metal piece which now shows the day of the week, used to be numbered between 1-5 so you knew which collection was due next.
Hence, wondering how often mail is actually collected these days

The pillar box outside my local corner shop / PO gets collected twice a day, usually around 11.30 and 6.00.  The PO gets collected at the same time.  In previous years around this time they had collections from the PO several times a day, don't know about this year.

As for priority boxes, go here https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you#/ and input your location.  It will show all the priority boxes and if they have a Sunday collection.  Closest priority box to me with a Sunday collection is 40 miles away in the city where the MC is, looks like all the priority boxes there get a Sunday collection.

  • RM have suspended deliveries to Europe, couriers are struggling to get anything through but ebay still don't feel it is necessary to extend the delivery times! I'm guessing that just about anything that has recently been sent abroad (apart from Ireland) is going to be late so the INR's will start shortly....

A few things have changed in the last decade ;)
Getting earlier collections often doesnt matter as mail centres are geared to dealing with mail from the last collections before dispatching nationally.
Nobody is going to give you an answer for all post boxes and sub post offices. These can change for many reasons.
The changes to the entire collection process was to get away from the rigid structure of old.

Our post has always been very good and still is even now.   The only difference is that instead of coming at around 12:30 it now comes at around 14:30, but I don't mind at all so long as it comes sometimes during the day.
Our postman is fab, such a nice guy.   Always asks us how we are getting on during the covid times and how work is etc (we both work from home).

Probably a lot more people sending expensive gifts to relatives they would have normally seen in person.

Could be sending SD more for the insurance coverage than for the speed of delivery (thought that could certainly be a bonus given the current issues with the standard services).
