Without context those pictures mean nothing. Theres not actually that much there.

Reported in today’s Daily Mail, this is a pile of unsorted mail at Bristol.  There were photos of other depots where Mail is being left outside as there is no space inside.

Yup but if you went to Edinburgh mail centre this time last year. mail was stored outside and in HGV trailers(which they do all year due to capacity in the warehouse loading bank area) plus an over flow sorting  parcel warehouse. 
These emotive pictures and talk of 'unsorted' mail dont really mean anything. RM wont be releasing exact data so it doesnt mean much.
Eg,in 'normal' times MCs will have 000's of 'unsorted' items on hand in the form of 2nd class (2C) items set aside to prioritise 1C products

I live near Darlington. We are getting only two deliveries a week due to staff sickness, the postie said this morning, when she handed me a HUGE pile of letters.

It looks like I am going to have to refund something tomorrow as it’s been en route for 2 weeks now and I can’t expect buyer to wait any longer. Like you I’ve never know it this bad, usually I continue selling and just extend my dispatch date, this year I closed entirely on Wednesday which is unprecedented.

After reading the last pages of this thread mainly about the problems with RM I can't believe an article I read yesterday that RM are in talks with Amazon to take over their deliveries.!!!!

I read it as  RM are potentially looking to deliver for Amazon, not the other way round

Nobody wants the letter business. Most of all RM.
