Tracking a parcel on its way to me using RM Parcel Collect. So far taken over 24hrs to get the 25 miles from the local DO to MC. I am not expecting it tomorrow as advertised.

You just have to hope your sacks aren’t at the bottom of this lot

Under normal circumstances how long would it take to get through that kind of pile? Are we talking less than a day, a normal day, ?custardy said:

Edit: obviously only a rough timescale, not expecting you know precisely how long! 😅0 -
Depends what you mean by 'get through'. Thats likely collection mail.(outward mail)Spoonie_Turtle said:

So you have bag openers splitting the bags, then staff splitting/sorting to the routes/areas and onward routes across the UK.
If its inward mail then its the same but sorted to DOs served by the mail centres.
In that case its about staff numbers/space to process. No reason that wouldnt be cleared in a shift with space/staff. (though once MCs start failing mail the backlog can grow quickly)
Those packs have small/meduim packets inside by their shape,so not actually a lot of items per bag.
Imagine those bags in standard RM york trolley. 8 bags per york. You could split n tip those 8 bags in 10 minutes easy. so theres 50 or so bags hour for 1 person. A good bag opener could push through quicker. so with break, transport times etc you are easy 300 bags a shift.
EDIT: and the above is why mail centre work is so mind numbing to some
Delivery offices dont get mail presented to them in bags like that(bar residual small amounts of packets/mail)1 -
My package came today. I chose to get it delivered Click & Collect from eBay and used a local Argos as my collection point. My assumption is that parcels are readily going to Argos anyhow, so mine is more likely to be quick if it's destined for Argos instead of my front door. I don't know how correct my assumption is but I was very glad when I got the email this afternoon. It was a small jiffy bag, posted in Peterborough on Tuesday afternoon and got to Nottingham on Saturday afternoon.

Reported in today’s Daily Mail, this is a pile of unsorted mail at Bristol. There were photos of other depots where Mail is being left outside as there is no space inside.custardy said:
