It was the customer services rep on the end of the phone but I doubt he goes off the phone to speak to Michael O'Leary about whether or not he can hand out refunds before he authorises it.
    Neither do I.
But I also doubt he went against whatever rules were laid down. (you may think differently)

No I think he was probably following the most recent guidelines since this last lockdown came into force but the online chat CS people were arguing differently and didn't seem to know a lot, or at least I couldn't get them to understand anything I was asking them.

Thought I would just update my case with Ryanair.   Although promised a refund yesterday based on the fact that it was Ryanair that moved the flight back 2 days so my request to transfer flights fee free was made inside the 7 days notice period and so the online chat agent was wrong to say I was not entitled to it, therefore I was offered a refund, I went into "My Bookings" on Ryanair a few minutes ago and the flight is still showing and waiting for "Check In" as I was due to fly today.    Now I would have thought that if a refund had been offered, the flight would be withdrawn from the Bookings and I have also not received an email of confirmation of their intention to refund so I have written to their CS demanding this.

I was surprised when you said that 'the agent' had 'taken a more sympathetic view' and offered you a refund in your earlier post.
Maybe MOL does have to authorise refunds... ;)

Well they (customer service agents) AND Michael O'Leary are born liars, or else they don't update their system properly !!  The former means that they can't be trusted with people's money in which case everyone should make sure he goes bust by not giving him any more business, or else if the latter, they need to get their house in order !

Promising you a refund gets you off the phon without any strife.

Point is they record all calls and I listened to him typing and saying out loud what we were being refunded for, so they won't get away with ignoring me that easily !

And you'd be amazed how easy it is for a call recording to disappear (we delete everything in bulk after 6 months, but this has to be done manually).

    Just saying

Turns out that I will be making a flight tomorrow for genuine business reasons. It is only an internal flight but I will report back on the process and any checks.

So to report back.....I've flown from Bristol to Edinburgh this afternoon and the experience was actually no different from the four other occassions I have flown out of Bristol this year.

In getting on the plane I passed:-
    1. Staff member asking people to keep moving past the temperature scanner in the tent outside the terminal.
    2. Staff member at the door of the terminal asking if I was a departing passenger.
    3. Three armed policeman lingering on the mezzanine near the boarding card check gates.
    4. Two members of staff overseeing the boarding card check gates.
    5. The security staff.
    6. Two further armed policeman standing air side of security.
    7. The gate staff.
    8. The Easyjet cabin attendants.
The couple next to me in the security queue were heading (with their child in pushchair) to Gran Canaria and seemed to pass through equally unchallenged.

Well there will always be people who will push the borders of authority and don't give a kipper, but if they had been stopped it is a £1000 fine !   For example, if questioned how would that family prove they were going on business to Gran Canaria ?

Why business? They could have been buying a house or going to visit a place of worship, both of which they are allowed to do.
