Just had the biggest shock of my life! Ryanair has offered to refund my flights because we can't fly due to the Pandemic!
I rang to question what the breakdown of the credit is they transfer across to new bookings, and explained what had happened so far with trying to transfer the flights over and wanted to know if the ticket cost included the baggage in the "Plus" price. To cut a long story short I was told that I could have moved the flights 2 weeks forward for no charge despite the threat of transfer fees, as the original scheduled flight was moved by Ryanair two days back to inside the lockdown period but still caused less than their 7 days notice period to get a free transfer which he said would no longer apply. I declined the offer of moving the flights 2 weeks forward as this would still be inside the lockdown period and he offered to refund the lot! I grabbed it with both hands. Having said that I wait to get any official confirmation and he said we would get the refund within 3 weeks but from comments I have read, people have been waiting months for their refunds! Still I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth0 -

Turns out that I will be making a flight tomorrow for genuine business reasons. It is only an internal flight but I will report back on the process and any checks.

Leodogger said:It WASN'T Mr. O'Leary that gave me my refund, it was the agent on the end of the phone! Mr. O'Leary said live on TV that anyone that didn't turn up for a flight that was not cancelled would not get a refund !! A leopard never changes his spots, I was just lucky that the agent took a more sympathetic view. You booked a Ryanair flight through an agent...?Or do you mean it was a Ryanair representative who authorised your refund? If it was a Ryanair representative, I really doubt that they would have been allowed to refund without higher authority.

Leodogger said:It was the customer services rep on the end of the phone but I doubt he goes off the phone to speak to Michael O'Leary about whether or not he can hand out refunds before he authorises it.Neither do I.But I also doubt he went against whatever rules were laid down. (you may think differently)
