Thanks. Olio food Hereros seem to post quite often while I am working but will keep a closer eye.
I know cabbages are my friend… I cut them into thin strips and cook them and treat them just like noodles or spaghetti. Cabbage carbonara and cabbage bolognaise are good…
I think maybe I need to cost out all my current meals and seen exactly which work out cheaper…. Haven’t done that for a long whileworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?3 -
Went to a birthday lunch yesterday, forgot to request/supply veg alternatives, so was served corn, peas and carrots, potato 2 ways, nice enough.
So had 2 poached eggs on low carb bread, having cabbage carbonara, thanks for the reminder @newlywed, been shopping and picked up a large chicken 30% off, curry tomorrow, with cauli and spinach, with the legs, the "crown" I will roast on Sunday.
Picked up a pie maker so am going to experiment making pies with low carb pastry, have tried that before and quite liked it. Thinking chicken and leek to use up more chicken, let you know how it goes.Do I need it or just want it.1 -
Chicken I bought Friday, made curry Sat, roast dinners Sun and Mon, last of used up today in chicken and leek pies, made up the pastry as per instructions, almond flour, vital wheat gluten, coconut flour, suet and seasonings, said 4 portions and that appears correct, cut it in half and half again, rolled out between greaseproof, eased into pre heated, oiled pie maker, trimmed edges, reserved trimmings for top, made second, filled with chicken, leek and broccoli florets which had been cooked off with a finish of a dollop of mascarpone to make a sauce, flattened trimmings to vague rounds and topped, lid down looked after about 5 mins, looking good, left a few more mins, lifted out very easily, was expecting a struggle, and so crispy and delicious. Will use up remaining pastry with steak and kidney.Do I need it or just want it.1

I'm looking for some advice please. What cooking oil do you use for roasting veg? I read that sunflower and rape oils aren't low carb. I'm having real problems with olive oil making my oven really filthy. I tried avocado oil instead as it has a better smoke point, but was having the same problem. Do you have any suggestions for a low carb oil that won't make my oven horrendously greasy?

I'm pretty certain I got it from Escape the Diet Trap by Dr John Briffa which is all about low carbing. I'll take another look and see if I've misunderstood.

Will work out my menu later today, may have to visit my S.I.L. in Cardiff over the weekend, trying to wiggle out, she is gluten free and celiac, and while every effort is made to manage that, understandably, she doesn`t understand low carb choice. Also, her personal choice no salt used anywhere in food, I have a pink salt grinder there which I use, to her comment, I use a lot of salt, laughing to myself when she comments how flavoursome food is with the knorr stock pots, she has read the gluten free, but not how much salt is in them.
I have loads of veg already in so will make my menu based around them, I usually start with the protein.Do I need it or just want it.0
