Slinky said:I'm looking for some advice please. What cooking oil do you use for roasting veg? I read that sunflower and rape oils aren't low carb. I'm having real problems with olive oil making my oven really filthy. I tried avocado oil instead as it has a better smoke point, but was having the same problem. Do you have any suggestions for a low carb oil that won't make my oven horrendously greasy?
Swede makes excellent low carb oven fries and roasties. I've discovered turnips recently and they are great, sliced and sauteed. £1 for 750g Essential Waitrose.Swede, turnips, celeriac are all good for mash. Husband does broccoli & cauliflower mash with sour cream, yogurt or creme fraiche and he uses cheese in the root veg mashes but look for the least salty cheeses.
I found a product recently called Hunter Gather unsweetened tomato ketchup. No added sugar, no sweeteners, organic tomatoes, no additives or preservatives. It's not cheap but tastes fantastic. I've you're not keen on swede oven chips, slather on tomato ketchup, serve with a couple of fried eggs ans some mushrooms and you're golden.

Not been doing too bad, will make a meal plan starting Monday as away weekend.
Made a low carb loaf yesterday, instead of extra seeds added some dried fruit, cranberries, ginger, and strawberries, chopped fine, makes a nice sweetish slice of toast for a treat, sliced it quite thickly so got fifteen slices.Do I need it or just want it.2 -
Blimey! Adding all that fruit, especially the dried fruit, doesn’t sound very low carb!?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Morning all .... first time posting on this thread.
I need to shift some excess weight that i've gained during the past 6 months with all the drama. Family deaths and OH having a wobble is not good for ones waistline.
I've had good results following a "Lower" Carb wholefood diet in the past and i want to get back to something with alot less processed food and less emphasise on carbs.
I will admit .. my body doens't seem to manage "True" low carb diets but i do feel better around the 50-75g marker so that's where i'm going to shoot. However the rule is that those carbs can only come from wholefoods such as fruit, veg, rice, sweet potato, lentils etc.
OH has just got a job *yay* so the purse strings can loosen slightly, but i don't want to loosen to much as id like the money to be focused on clawing ourselves out of the debt hole covid put us in!
As i said i've had great results eating this way in the past, but last time i did it, money was not a problem. Any suggestions on to manage this without breaking the bank? im guessing eggs are my friend at this point?
i'm a reasonably competent cook, however i do have a history of make BAD food choices when hungry so ideally things i can prep in advance.
