Problems with Jaja.

  • This has been an appallingly bad launch. I want to query my balance but can't. Transactions take forever to appear on the app. The app sometimes uses touch ID and at other times does not.  The helpline is either overwhelmed with calls or understaffed or both. I rang early one morning, it took 5 minutes to jump through the necessary hoops to speak to someone and when I was finally passed through, a recorded voice informed me that the office was now closed. This is the pits. I'm waiting for my next statement, clearing the balance and dumping this dreadful set of cowboys.

  • If so many people are cancelling their (former PO, AA and BOI) Jaja credit cards, it makes one wonder if Jaja’s purchase of the Bank Of Ireland credit card business (for reportedly between £530m and £671m) was actually worth it.

Obviously Jaja will be hoping that customers carry a balance on their cards and thus pay interest and I am curious to see if Jaja raise these interest rates to try to recoup the purchase price of the former BOI business.

I can’t see myself being a very profitable customer for Jaja, as I only used my PO Platinum credit card for purchases when on holiday abroad due to the zero foreign transaction charges.  With the current Covid-19 situation, I have no plans to travel anywhere soon. I also fully cleared the PO account on receipt of the statement and would do so with Jaja.

Only time will tell if they shed customers like me and target more ‘profitable’ customers – which sounds like going down the sub-prime route, or if Jaja can turn around the business with its current client base by offering some form of inducement (points, cashback etc) to keep existing customers and get them using the cards so that Jaja earn on the fees they charge businesses for accepting the card. Currently they offer no more than quite a few other cards so have no real unique selling point.

Otherwise I can see them going down the pan pretty quickly.

Exactly my view. Was a difficult task to register with JaJa although the app seems to be working now. I'll pay off the balance a week before due date and won't use it again. The wonderful (and crazy) benefit of the PO Card was foreign currency cash withdrawal before holidays. No fees nor commissions and up to seven weeks before having to repay. Don't see any mention of that in JaJa T&C's. I only ever used it for foreign travel due to it being commission free/charges free. JaJa have no more benefits than my standard Santander Card so I'll be using that in future.
Incidentally, having ditched the Bank of Ireland the Post Office are now inviting me to their new Visa card, run by Capital One.
  • Same here though in my case Jaja charged me interest though Im interest free till next year, they are complete shambles.
  • Tried to phone them to cancel my card as was previously with PO. but jaja don’t offer purchase protection according to the letter they sent me before change, impossible to get through. So I  paid off my balance and phoned the lost card line Only 15 mins this time.  The only reason I’d hv a CC is for purchase protection.
  • FCA are aware of the issues with JaJa hope they get their !!!!!! kicked.

Jaja also do not charge any fees or commissions on foreign currency transactions.
Most Santander cards do charge f/x fees apart from Santander Zero.

I was interest free till April 2021 but they charged me interest, they looked into it and told me they think only 2 years but it was 28 mths,  I have the orginally offer email from Post Office with the dates and period, they agreed to freeze interest till end of Jan which I guess is something. I'm the second person I know this has happened to, we were told promotions would be honoured but they are changing stuff on the fly and asking me for evidence to post in, no one notified me of a change in terms / conditions, I thought changing terms like this was breach of contract?? Anyway it gives me enough time to pay off the card and I already applied for a new one different company.

I’ve not been able to register using the app. However using the exact same details, i have been able to register via the website. All my statements appear to be blank!
  • Jaja are a joke. Friday before switch weekend card declined for no reason. But secndary cardholder's worked ok! First phone call , 2 members of staff, all ok must have been a glitch. Declined again. Two further phone calls and speaking to 6 people in total, apparently it's a system issue with no known timescale but their IT bods are working on it. Complaint raised.  Card suddenly started working again last Saturday but these transactions are still not showing on the app.
And as for the app. Registered ok but it took 3 versions over 5 days to get a supposedly working app. I really liked PO showing transactions almost instantly, now I just want the transactions to just appear at some point so I can pay the right amount, please 🙏.  Or is this a trick so customers like me who pay in full end up with interest charges 🤔
Martin/MSE can you please look into this and see if you can get any sense out of JaJa and also what the FCA are doing. Plus are  the BoI on the hook for any of these issues?
