I've just finished the homemade lemonade recipe and I can't wait for it to be chilled enough  but I was wondering if anyone has any uses for the lemon skins I have left or should I just  throw them out:eek::eek::eek:? We haven't a compost heap so I can't put them on that. I saw on Gardeners World on Friday someone who used empty grapefruit halves as slug houses so I was wondering whether maybe lemons would work as well?

Off to find the coleslaw and other recipes - in fact I think I might even print out the 16 pages of recipes I have while I dust/clear up the livingroom :D after making sure there are no more delish ones I want to add of course :rotfl:

You can wipe your stainless steel with them.

They're not quite as good as whole lemon slices but the skins will slightly freshen air if simmered gently in water - and the bottom of the pan I did this in is now shinier than the top!

The zest can be set aside and used in any recipe that calls for it to give things a bit more zing.

There must be more uses... he sez... :)

Had a lovely day enjoying the sunshine with my little boy! He 'helped' me to make a lovely vegetarian lasagne this morning for dinner tonight.

We had free storytime and colouring at the local library and he's now enjoying himself at the park with his dad. :)

Also discovered that the disposable Johnson's facecloths that a friend gave to me do survive the washing machine, so can be reused as handy dusters! :)

Hope you enjoy the lemonade! I'm just about to make up a second lot. It is lovely with chilled fizzy lemonade added. I'm going to use some of the lemon shells up by boiling them up in some water and using it as a hair rinse as it is meant to bring out blond highlights ;) If you are cooking up some rice you could also pop them into the water to make lemon rice. Got that idea from one of my Shirley Goode books.

Also has anyone ever heard of Rhubarb Grunt? Is a nice alternative to crumble, more pastry like... I have it in a Nigella book at home... yummy
It sounded interesting so I looked it up. :)

It's the second recipe on This Page.

Sorry squeaky, I looked at the link and there was only rhubarb tart, which looks good anyway! Rhubarb is so underrated! I get mine from local farmers market! Another thing I should really grow in my garden when it is sorted.... Anyhow...

Thought I would post the recipe then any other techie thickies like me or people with tempremental (mental being the right word) Computers, also like me have it, easy peasy! :A

Ok this is only Nigella's recipe so if anyone else has one thats different don't shoot me, I know she changes stuff around in recipes, :D

    650g rhubarb trimmed
200-250g Caster sug (according to taste)
50g unsalted butter (personaaly I don't bother with this, if only to convince myself I can eat a bigger portion!)
ovenproof dish (I use a little pyrex casserole dish)
    TOPPING
    150g plain flour
3 tblspns golden or ord caster sug
    1/2 tspn salt
    250ml double cream

    Heat oven to 190 C
Spread chopped rhubarb in bottom of dish sprinkle on sug and dot with butter (if using)
Sift flour and sug and salt in separate bowl then add cream (gently aparently)and mix into sort of dough, spread sticky dough over fruit.
Put it in the oven for about 45 mins or until golden or fruit is bubbling. Serve as desired ie cream custard both whatever!

I love it and it is so easy! Also it seems to be V easy to adapt, more fruit, mix of fruit more sug less sug and still good without the butter! :T

Hope that helps. Squeaky can this be added to the recipe thread?
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!

Dash it all to blazes that recipe was supposed to be thr grunt according to the search engine - and it's clearly NOT, now that you have pointed it out. Harumph!

Sure - if you cut and paste the recipe into the Recipe Thread and ensure that it's attributed properly to Nigella I'll index it :)

To find the thread use the "Indexed Collections" in the blue bar at the top of THIS page :) Just up there ^^^

It looks a bit like this now:-

    • If you have the half shells .... sit with your elbows in them and relax - after the winter months, when your skin becomes dry it will help soften and cleanse. After 5 - 10 mins rinse with warm water and dry. Massage a little oil on the point of your elbows then wipe off any excess :)
    • Put them in your bath for a refreshing soak (even more zingy if you rub the skins over your body before adding them to the bath water ) ;)
    • Put them in your washing up bowl ... brings out the shine on your glassware and cuts through grease.

    :hello: Good Morning :hello:

After yesterday's baking, I am now on kitchen strike! The heat of the oven on for 2hrs+ combined with the heat of the day knocked me for six; ended up feeling quite lethargic and unwell :( But at least the family were able to tuck in and scoff the booty :D

I spent the evening having an old fashioned foot bath and that certainly helped! LOL (Lavender leaves, steeped first in hot water, then cooled and then .... ahhhhhhhh) :D

This morning has been very productive. I have already performed my 20 min whip round and wiped down the bathroom and kitchen with hm vinegar cleaner :j

I've scheduled half hour "Me Time" a bit later ... I'll be listening to a CD, from my 'me' box, while journalling and enjoying some herb tea. (Located the old personal CD player, so I think I'll be spending my me time in the garden under the shade of the pergola before the midday heat strikes! )

Later today I shall be making some oatmeal soap for the school fayre (I've noticed shops sell Dove Exfoliating Soap bars now :rotfl: - hm one's are just as good and a fraction of the price). I shall also make the tags to attach to them and I've still got some cellophane to wrap them up in.

But for now, I'm enjoying a coffee and some "me time" on MSE :D:D:D
