Original plan for today was to go the library and then into town to the museum with DD (teacher training day so no nursery), changed our mind yesterday and decided to go to my mums today after going to the library. Changed my mind again after seeing the weather forecast - Thunder Storms and heavy rain  I HATE being out in thunderstorms and my waterproof coat isn't that waterproof so I'm going to ring mum and cancel. Instead I'm going to attack the house. It needs a really good clean, there are still dishes to be washed  and I have a stack of ironing that needs to be done as some of it has been sitting there for 2 weeks :o I also want to get DD's curtains shortened, lined and up so that I can wash the ones she's currently got up. I also need to recover the 1 dining chair I didn't get around to yesterday. Oh, and the shelves from the bathroom still need painting :o

I've just got to check my bank account, I'm hoping OH's transfer clears today otherwise I'm going to be £100 overdrawn then I'm off to start the good clean

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Nicki: When I have blended everything to make HM lemonade (had to make 3 litres last night!) as I chop the whole lemon up and do it that way the remains that are left I keep for flavouring rice etc. I did this last week for a rice dish and it really worked :j I was also thinking about having a go at putting a small amount of it in a cake - I'll let you know how it turns out. seems a shame to waste it :D
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Nothing OS about me today as I've been at work since 7 am! Not even packed lunch as it's my "eat out" Friday. But I do have an old style weekend planned, making hamburgers, fish cakes & sausage casseroles for the freezer & having a clean round, thankfully I have been fairly motivated this week & laundry & general tidyness isn't too bad for once (thanks guys for keeping me going in this heat, I've really apprecaited these OS day threads even if I haven't posted much on them)

Queenie, any chance of your exfoliating soap recipe please?

was going to bake some cakes OLD STYLE for sons school fete today but have had a letter home saying due to "health and safety reasons" homemade cakes are no longer allowed!!!!!!!!!!! what is this planet coming to??????? ?

I don't believe it  I think this is dreadful - given the Jamie Oliver campaign I think you should write a strong letter to the local paper...... Yesterday I went to physio (spine not improving so it's a referral to a spinal surgeon for me - oh goody  ) and she said it was somebody's birthday and the offices were full of homemade cakes - and that's at a GPs!!!!

Well, today I have been paid so my challenge starts I suppose. Actually rang up to check I had been paid and then promptly paid all the bills - that was fun  . Still at least we know now how much money we have got - I've also gone completely mad and bought some tickets for Depeche Mode next March - they were £65.65 including all the fees etc - slightly better than the £50-odd for one U2 ticket........ :D I console myself with the fact that we have not been able to go away this year and don't smoke - I'd like to say don't drink but OH is a scot!!!! :D

right, i guess I'd better do some work now (seeing as I am at work :D ) BUT it's the farmer's market on across the road so obviously I may HAVE to go past on my way home......... :rotfl:

Well my plans for today have just been changed due to the weather and a dog who is petrified by thunder storms. He seems to sense the storm approaching and he starts crying then starts digging on the carpets and panting. He actually scratched the pile off the carpet in the spare room last week, and even digs the laminate floor. The only thing I can do with him is to put him on his lead and try to calm him down. The storms not here yet but it's gone very dark and got a lot cooler.
Well done on the cooker Jamiedodger and enjoy your "Me time" Queenie.

After replying to yesterdays thread in a "proxy"style (my OH doing the Old Style at home) I will be leaving the black hole I earn a living from at 12.00 and have been given a list of jobs by the pregnant one.

    1. Clean windows (vinegar and newspaper natch)

    2. Buy some bicarb to freshen carpets

    3. (Not OS but still) put up border in , ahem, nursery.

    4. Tend plants in back yard

For this I get rewarded with a baking lesson. Cheese and onion pie today! :j

Well done Eyeopener, from another pregnant one whose hubby has a similar list (clean windows, paint toy box, water garden et all, put up rotary washing line). We do appreciate you, even if we are too big & overheated to remember to say it somedays:o

MrsMW, have you spoken to your vet? My dog used to get very scared of fireworks (thankfully he has grown out of it now) & the vet would give me a few pills to mildy sedate him when he strated fretting, I'm sure they would work for thuderstorm fear too & they weren't expensive. Not OS I know but better then the pooch getting distressed in my opinion;) .

Also has anyone ever heard of Rhubarb Grunt? Is a nice alternative to crumble, more pastry like... I have it in a Nigella book at home... yummy

If you made it with strawberries it would be perfect to sell at wimbledon :D

    • If you have the half shells .... sit with your elbows in them and relax - after the winter months, when your skin becomes dry it will help soften and cleanse. After 5 - 10 mins rinse with warm water and dry. Massage a little oil on the point of your elbows then wipe off any excess :)

And hope no-one comes to the door, how odd us old stylers must look with our elbows stuck in lemons, olive oil on our faces and ink in our hair, we think it's perfectly normal and understand why, but I could see why we might be thought of as a little strange :D

P.s thanks for the tip Queenie, I think I'll give it a go later, I'll have some when I've made the lemon curd Squeaky says is so nice (see the recipe index)
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

    Morning all :)

Sorry that the baking made you feel icky Queenie :( . If I promise not to talk about nice food ever again will you put me back on your reading list? Puweeeese? :silenced: I'd second the request for the soap recipie - sounds like just the thing to boost my ailing present drawer! Have some fabulous me time. I'm intending to have mine in the kitchen making, ahem, things :p and singing (if we're calling it that) along to the proclaimers :D

Jamiedodge - that's crazy about the cakes, but well done about the cooker - that's fab :D No experience with greenhouses but if you can get a 2nd hand one and it's ok that should be cheaper?

Nicki, nothing worse than getting soaked, and I don't imagine it'd be a lot of fun being out with a soggy DD either! Sounds like you've a busy day ahead (and I could be doing with getting my cleaning done too... fancy coming round to mine, after? nah? Ack, guess that means that's my plan for tonight then...)

Lillibet, sounds like a cracking weekend line up (and have a good lunch, it's friday!)

Ouch - sorry to hear about your back Rage :grouphug: . I'm sure Depeche Mode will be fantastic!

It's a shame to see the animals all upset by the weather, isn't it MrsMW - not a whole heap you can do either. I wonder where the digging thing comes from?

Sounds like your OH is training you well eyeopener! :D Have a fantastic time learning to bake (it's very satisfying, honest!)

My day hasn't been at all O/S yet - work since 8am... but I've nice HM brekkie and lunch in with me. I really ought to be gutting the house this evening as I've a friend coming to stay tommorrow but I've got a baking bee in my bonnet and I may need to make banana loaf instead :D

Farmer's market tommorrow so I'll be confirming what I already have in the freezer tonight and making my buying decisions based on that. (*crossing fingers for rhubarb*!)

    have a great day all!
Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...
