If you have a dishwasher (not very OS, I know), you can also put the lemon skins in there.

    Hi everybody,

I seem to do less and less money saving and just hang around the old style boards picking up tips, which I love. So a big thanks to all contributors because I do think that the oldstylers are a very friendly bunch, and more often than not a good laugh!

Am at work at the moment and have done all my bits and bobs, keep doing it all too quick I'm sure!

Anyway, just needed a quick moan, about mothers!

Mine is currently living in Oz and was supposed to be coming home for two months on Sunday, well now there is a guy who wants to buy their house (Mum and stepdad) and complete in next two weeks....

So she might not come and when she does it will mean that I wont get any "quality time" with her because my stepdad will be there and he can't seem to make a cup of tea without mum! (how he was going to cope for two months I don't know!) This is about the fifth time she has altered her plans!

Moan over, best go now, soory guys, needed that.

Jammiedodger - ask if you and other parents could do a food hygiene certificate course. Only takes 2 hours x a couple of weeks to do and means that the school is covered if anyone gets a dickie tummy. I had to do this when I was helping to cater for sure start parties. HTH

    Hi fellow MSEers,
Have had an interesting day so far. I managed to get my mum to take my son with her for the day as I have had to have a mole removed at the doctors. :( Have managed to get some bargins in tescos (half price fruit & veg) and some reduced priced meat etc. Have done a boiled ham, with mash potato and carrots (cook altogther), and have saved juice for making soup with at a later date.
Also went into Boots, and got a hair dye with my points. Also signed up for the new Boots mother and baby club, as you get 500 free points if your baby is under 2 years old. When I got home I found a free jar of spicy paste that I had sent off for a while ago (for OH).
I am now enjoying catching up with everyone on the moneysaving old style board (my fav. place to be!). Just need a nice cup of tea....:D

    Hello friends :)

I've just packed DS2 off to pre-school. I'm going to do a 30 minute whip round shortly, then have an hours 'me time' before after school charge turns up at 2.30ish.

Today I've taken DS2 to speech therapy then hit the town. He needed some new shoes and I had to get some Euros for Mr TM, so my purse has had a big hit today :( Also went to the market and got lots of lovely M&S socks at £1.50 a set (3 or 4 pairs per set) as both boys needed new ones. Lots of lovely fruit and veg too.

I love the sound of those soaps too. Can't you just see the next OS trend :D (Hmmm - wonder if you can make them in a slow cooker.... ) However, this weekend I intend to peruse my cook books and make something new. Dunno what yet - I'll wait for a suitable recipe to appear before my eyes. Right - my water's filtered now. Must have a brew and that whip round.
  • ah well been out on the farmer's market attached to the local market - boss out at lunch! - actually only 4/5 stalls there - quite shocked - speaking to another stallholder and he thinks it's either holidays/not paying/forecast torrential rain (which we haven't had as yet). still, got some rhubarb thanks to the discussion on rhubarb yesterday :j and will be making stuff tonight when OH is on his summer pub crawl with his mates - i have declined my kind invitation due to (a) i'd rather him go and have a good time than us both go and be worried about overspending and (b) I remember last year's hangover..... :D also got some steak so I presume the be-ro steak pie will be tried (this will be the first time I have done a meat pie - oohh scary :rotfl: ).................
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Not much OS as I've spent my morning at work taking an exam but have learnt that I will have a few extra hours above normal the week after next so will help the bank balance............but I have got a new toy to play with. Can now officially become a signed up member of the Breadmaker club. Husband has done the sensible thing and read the instructions whereas I've just looked at the recipes and told him what we'll be able to make in it. Anyway have a good weekend one and all. I'm off for a nose around the Breadmaker thread!!

Jamiedoger - I a similar problem at DD's nursery/school, its a nut/seed free school due to a pupil having a nut allergy so all the healthy packed lunches of cereal bars and homemade biscuits for next year need to be rethinked but I'll find a way around it like always ;)

Queenie - where do you get your supplies for you soap from? Also roughly how much does it cost? I'd love to have a go at soap making but I haven't a clue where to start

So far I've cleaned the masterbedroom properly, spoke to my mum for 30 minutes or so on the phone and SCRUBBED the bathroom suite. My shoulders and fingers are sore and I think I must be all out of elbow grease so I've come here for a break while I have lunch (ham & mayo sandwich, HM scone with mixed fruit jam and sunflower spread, choc ice and 2 glasses of homemade lemonade :D actually make that 2 choc ices :o ). After doing ANOTHER batch of dishes, I'm leaving DD down here watching TV (cbeebies) while I attack her bedroom. Then I'll chase her up to play while I clean the livingroom (including mopping the floor) and the kitchen. If I have time before 4.30 (a programme I promised DD she could watch is on then) I might tackle the ironing pile. Well at least thats the plan :rotfl:

Jamie - :T That's fantastic news on the cooker!! WTG! :T (Just think what the school is missing out on now!)

nicki - please can you send that thunder storm our way ... it's soooo humid here!

Lillibet - between the heat and your pregnancy, I should hope you aren't doing too much, OS or otherwise! Trust me, take all the breaks and me-time you can get *now* ... they'll be precious little of it when Mini-bet arrives ((hugs))

Rage - ooooh, Depeche Mode!!! :T Wow! That's going to be so much FUN! Don't be too anxious about the meat pie, I bet it's going to be wonderful .. you can always feed it to OH when he gets back from his pub crawl, he'll be in the mood to eat a scabby horse by then ;)

MrsMW - aww, the poor mite, hope the walk pacifies him; Lillibets idea about the vets is a good one. Hope your dog, carpets, laminates and you survive the threatened storms unscathed ((hug))

eyeopener ... :j by now you've escaped your "black hole" and hopefully enjoying your tasks for the day ;) (When you clean the windows, do it when the sun isn't blasting down on them = less chance of streaks ;) ) What a diamond you are, a number of men see household tasks as something to be scared of!!! LOL I'm sure your OH thoroughly appreciates all that you do. Enjoy the Cheese n Onion Pie .

greenlogo - it is my own fault for being tempted into your world of hm apple pie and getting carried away! LOL As a compromise, I shall only read your cooking threads through rose tinted glasses in future ;):D
Hope you have a fun time having your friend to stay and the Farmers Market - I'd add enjoy your banana loaf, but I'm refusing to read the small print :naughty:

Kippsy ((hugs)) That must be so frustrating for you :(
When 'mum' does finally get to you, if you get desperate for some quality time with her ... make stepdad a prune cake with prune custard and prune tea ... he'll leave you be for a while then ;)
Hope she gets to you soon, sounds like you could do with some time together. ((hugs))

powie69 - hope the wound heals fast from your mole removal ((hugs)) Sounds like you're having a great day otherwise though, well done! :T

Tm - enjoy your hour of metime - you can forgive yourself the purse bombings .. sounds like you picked up some bargains!

April - Woohoo on the breadmaker :T Enjoy your new toy :D When do you get the results from the exam? Fingers X'd for you :)

Phew! That's taken me ages!! LOL

Just made a block of the soap, which I'll cut down into 2oz bars before wrapping and tagging. :j For those who wanted the "recipe" ...
    HM Oatmeal Scrub Soap

4oz fine oatmeal (or Porrage Oats blended in a food processor until fine)
4oz soap slivers (grated, then processed to breadcrumb like texture)
Oil = 1 - 2 Tbs Sweet Almond Oil with a few drops of essential oil ( I use Lavender EO) I have used Olive oil in the past :o
    Water = 1 - 2 Tbsp

Put the dry ingredients into a bowl, add the oil and water and mix. The mix should work together like making pastry.
Either, roll into balls or put into a "mold" and leave for 24-48hrs to dry out. (For a "mold" I've used a cut down orange juice carton because of it's "waxy" inside which will help with "unmolding".
I've put mine into the sunny porch to dry out.

The porch is smelling gorgeous LOL!
I think I've used up all my "word count" on this post ... so I'll be back later ;)

Hello she rushes back all flushed having been madly scribbling down breadmaker recipes......following on from Queenie's oatmeal scrub I made my Mum HM bath salts- rock salt mixed with dried lavender and several drops of geranium essential oil. Smelt delicious but don't use if you've got any cuts because it might sting. Am off after hopefully a bargain laden shop at Tesco tomorrow to PYO strawberries followed on by a free folk festival. Husband and I will probably spend tomorrow evening making jam accompanied by the wine I got on offer. If people have got lavender it would be worth drying it as it is delicious as an ingredient in biscuits. If anyone wants a recipe I'll look it out!
